Cairo, July 27 (Xinhua) -- After driving a gasoline-powered car for many years, Pla · Munir, an electric car seller in Cairo, the capital of Egypt, decided to buy a Chinese-made electric car after careful comparison.
Munir, who currently drives a Chinese BYD Song L SUV, expressed admiration for the quality of Chinese EVs, noting that Chinese EVs differ from European EVs in terms of technology and battery quality.
"I noticed a huge difference in cost, maintenance and efficiency," he told Xinhua news agency, laving praise for BYD cars' batteries because their cars have a range of more than 600 kilometers on a single charge.
The number of electric vehicles in the Egypt market is growing significantly, and many Chinese-made electric vehicles are driving on Egypt's roads.
Munir told Xinhua that a wide range of electric vehicles from Chinese manufacturers, from BYD and Geely to ZEEKR and NIO, are becoming increasingly popular among Egyptians.
According to the Egypt Compulsory Motor Vehicle Insurance Union, electric vehicle sales in Egypt surged in the first quarter of 2024, with more than 1,419 licensed electric vehicles, almost a third of the number of licensed electric vehicles in the past three years.
The data shows that from the beginning of July 2021 to the end of June 2024, the number of electric vehicles has continued to grow, bringing the total number of licensed electric vehicles to 7,213, making BYD the second best-selling car.
Tamer · Sabri, owner of an electric vehicle sales agency in Cairo, told Xinhua: "There is a growing demand for Chinese-made electric vehicles. ”
"Given the difficult economic situation in Egypt and the world, people tend to buy electric vehicles with lower prices and good quality," Sabri said. He noted that consumers can find all these characteristics in Chinese brands, making Chinese-made cars one of the most popular cars in Egypt.
Osama · Aboul·-Magde, president of the Egypt Automobile Dealers Association, also said that the influence of Chinese electric vehicles in Egypt is rapidly increasing.
"China's electric vehicles have had a significant impact on the development of the world's electric vehicle industry and have taken it to new heights," said Abel ·Magde. ”
As for future cooperation in the field of electric vehicle industry, Abul · Magde said that he believes that there are many opportunities for cooperation in this field.
As a leading country in the field of electric vehicle manufacturing, "China has already helped many countries manufacture electric vehicles, and future cooperation with China in electric vehicle manufacturing will drive Egypt's strategy and efforts to localize the electric vehicle industry," he said.
