Xie Lansheng (1769-1831), known as Peishi, was a native of Nanhai County, Guangzhou Prefecture, and lived in Guangzhou. In the seventh year of Jiaqing (1802), he was elected as a scholar of the Hanlin Academy. Due to his father's old age, he will no longer take the examination after taking leave. After his father's death, he successively presided over the lectures of Guangzhou Yuexiu, Yuehua, and Duanxi Academies, and later served as the head of Yangcheng Academy. He was appointed by Ruan Yuan, the governor of Liangguang, to rewrite the "Guangdong General Chronicles" and serve as the editor-in-chief.
