However, 18 years later, the Lanzhou Intermediate People's Court made Liu Xuebao a murderer.

The "big hero" who sacrificed himself to protect the bridge
On December 17, 1967, Liancheng Forest Farm, Yongdeng County, Gansu Province, was held to celebrate the "Revolutionary Committee" meeting. The loggers in the forest farm basically participated, but only two did not go, that is, Liu Xuebao, who was in charge of guarding, and Li Shibai, a worker.
Liu Xuebao has not been in the forest farm for a long time, only came here in July, but Li Shibai is the one he is most impressed by. It is not because of Li Shibai's lonely and withdrawn character, but because of this person's special identity - Li Shibai was the deputy company commander of the military police of the national army.

In that special era, serving as a soldier in the national army was equivalent to having a "criminal record", which was the existence that leftists like Liu Xuebao despised the most. They have been brainwashed by the reactionaries, and they may cause trouble one day, so Liu Xuebao has always been very wary of Li Shibai.
It was also a coincidence that on the night of the celebration meeting, it happened to be Liu Xuebao and Li Shibai who stayed in the forest farm. Liu Xuebao was still concentrating on standing guard, but Li Shibai, who was in the house, suddenly appeared, and walked out of the gate sneakily with something in his arms.
Liu Xuebao, who witnessed everything, sneered and shook his head, "Counter-revolutionary" Li Shibai, I have finally been caught by me! In order not to startle the snake, Liu Xuebao followed behind Li Shibai with light steps, he wanted to see what kind of fame this person could make.
In this way, Liu Xuebao followed Li Shibai to the Chimuha Bridge in the city, which is a new project that has just been completed not long ago. What is Li Shibai doing here? When he saw what he was holding in his arms, Liu Xuebao immediately understood.
That's a pack of explosives! Liu Xuebao's face changed suddenly, he didn't expect Li Shibai to be so bold that he dared to openly blow up a national project. Regarding this kind of heinous behavior of destroying people's property, Liu Xuebao, as the deputy squad leader, made a quick decision and decided to snatch the explosives package.
So, as soon as Li Shibai walked on the bridge, Liu Xuebao rushed out at full speed. He originally planned to grab it directly, but Li Shibai's reaction was extremely flexible, and Liu Xuebao tried several times but failed to succeed. Seeing that the other party was about to ignite the fuse, Liu Xuebao was completely panicked.
If the bridge is blown up, the hard work of the workers will be wasted, and the lives of the people will also be affected. Whatever the method, the explosive package must be snatched, otherwise the consequences will be unimaginable. Liu Xuebao thought like this and quietly picked up a stone.
Through the fight just now, Liu Xuebao and Li Shibai's physical strength has been consumed a lot, and this is a good opportunity to snatch the explosive bag. So taking advantage of the other party's unpreparedness, Liu Xuebao lifted the stone and smashed the back of Li Shibai's head, and did not stop the movement in his hand until the other party lost consciousness.
The explosives package was finally obtained, but Liu Xuebao did not feel relaxed at all, because the lead had been pulled out by Li Shibai. It seemed that it was impossible to prevent the explosives package from exploding, so Liu Xuebao clenched his back molars and ran straight to the river beach with the explosives package.
The distance from the river beach to the Chimuha Bridge is not close, and since the situation cannot be reversed, try to minimize the damage. With a loud "boom", the firelight illuminated the dark Qiaodong Highway, and Liu Xuebao fell on the road covered in blood......
The sound of the explosion soon attracted the staff on duty at the nearby bridge, and when they arrived at the scene in a hurry, Liu Xuebao and Li Shibai were already dying. One suffered severe burns, while the other suffered a head injury and his life was in critical condition.
At stake, the bridge duty officer immediately sent Liu Xuebao and Li Shibai to the hospital for rescue, and at the same time, the leaders of Liancheng Forest Farm also reported the incident. Liu Xuebao was able to save his life due to timely hospitalization, but his left hand was amputated due to excessive burns.
From the able-bodied to the disabled, such a big gap is undoubtedly a hammer, but Li Shibai's experience is much worse than Liu Xuebao's. Since being admitted to the hospital, Li Shibai has been in a coma, and finally died of his injuries in the early morning of the second day after he was taken to the hospital.
At the time of the explosion, there were only two people, Liu Xuebao and Li Shibai, and now that one of the parties is dead, if you want to ask the ins and outs of the matter, you can only hope for Liu Xuebao. And Liu Xuebao did not hide it, and told the case-handling personnel about the discovery of Li Shibai's bombing of the bridge.
After learning that Li Shibai was the real culprit in the bombing, the public security bureau and the leaders of the forest farm were not surprised, although they could not find any suspicious clues from Li Shibai's house. After all, with this person's sensitive status, it is not surprising that he would do such an anti-social thing.
As a result, Liu Xuebao, who survived, became popular, and he was regarded as a model for proletarian elements to study, and the whole country was full of praise for him. On December 29, 1967, Liu Xuebao was awarded the title of hero by the Lanzhou Military Region, and the "People's Daily" gave him high praise:
"(Liu Xuebao) cherished a bitter hatred for the class enemy, fought bravely against the counter-revolutionaries alone, and created earth-shattering achievements."
How famous was Liu Xuebao at that time? The New Taipei Commune of Peking University held a special plenary meeting to call on the school staff to learn the spirit of Liu Xuebao; In the primary school textbooks of the local government, you can also see Liu Xuebao's deeds of sacrificing himself to protect the bridge, and everyone takes him as an example.
In addition, "People's Liberation Army Daily" and other media have also widely reported on Liu Xuebao's deeds, and "People's Liberation Army Literature and Art" even published a special comic book for him. After receiving the first-class merit, Liu Xuebao was promoted to a member of the party committee of the Lanzhou Military Region.
The earth-shattering scam behind the aura
However, this heroic deed, which caused a sensation across the country, has ushered in a reversal after 18 years. The Lanzhou Municipal Public Security Bureau got important clues by visiting the lumberjacks who worked in the forest farm that year, Li Shibai did not leave the scene, but Liu Xuebao went out twice.
Li Shibai did go out that day, but the time was between Liu Xuebao's two outings, and he did not carry any suspicious items in his hands. What's more, in the eyes of everyone, Li Shibai's position also has no access to explosives, and Liu Xuebao's statement has obvious loopholes.
Secondly, Liu Xuebao was not amputated, and at best he was only injured by a few fingers of his left hand. Through simulation experiments, experts found that Liu Xuebao's so-called "basin-sized explosives bag" was also false, and the amount of explosives in the bag was not even 10 grams.
The most important thing is that when he found out that Li Shibai was going to blow up the bridge, Liu Xuebao actually instigated the cooks to go to the forest farm to find someone to help. It is difficult not to suspect his motives by not notifying the construction workers and nearby people in Qiaobei as soon as possible, but instead supporting his entourage first.
Therefore, it is really like this - on the night of the incident, Liu Xuebao tricked Li Shibai to the bridge, and then smashed the latter with an axe and a stone into an open fracture of the skull. When Li Shibai fell into a coma, Liu Xuebao disguised himself as injured again, so that no one would suspect him.
But the legal net was restored but not leaked, and Liu Xuebao's behavior of satisfying his selfish desires by slandering and killing people did not escape the eyes of the public security organs after all. In 1984, Liu Xuebao was sentenced to life imprisonment by the Lanzhou Municipal People's Court on suspicion of intentional homicide, revealing a fox's tail.
Liu Xuebao paid the price for his actions, but Li Shibai, who died innocently, could not be resurrected, and his family was also deeply traumatized. His wife was sent to Dingxi, Gansu Province for labor reform, and his children were also criticized and imprisoned, and they have not been able to live a stable life for more than 20 years.
There is no doubt that the culprit of all this is Liu Xuebao, who directed and acted in order to gain honor and future, and took the lives of others as the "cornerstone" of his career. Fortunately, the truth has come out, presumably Li Shibai knows it underground, and he will feel relieved in his heart!
