The World Triathlon Federation said in a statement on July 30 that the men's individual triathlon event at the Paris Olympics will be postponed to the morning of July 31 local time due to the "substandard" water quality of the Seine.
Rains in Paris, the capital of France, on July 26 and 27 exacerbated pollution in parts of the Seine, "exceeding acceptable limits," the statement said.

According to the Olympic schedule, the marathon swimming and triathlon swimming competitions will be held on the Seine. As a result, the water quality of the Seine has become a matter of concern.

Over the past 10 years, the Paris city government and other relevant departments have invested more than 1 billion euros (about 7.8 billion yuan) to clean up the pollution of the Seine. According to the Seine River water quality test report released by the Paris city government on July 4, the levels of E. coli and enterococci in the Seine Olympic swimming section have dropped to the open water competition standard required by the World Swimming Federation.
