On August 9, according to gsmarena reports, Apple's upcoming iPhone 16 series mobile phone display production has begun mass production. According to Korea sources, Apple has ordered 80 million panels from Samsung and 43 million panels from LG. Apple is expected to ship around 90 million iPhone 16 units this year, which means that Apple has already ordered about 30% of the additional panels. Korea's supply chain has "confirmed" that Samsung and LG are currently producing panels according to the order volume.

LG will benefit the most from this order, supplying about 10 million more display panels than last year, accounting for more than 30% of the market share with Samsung. According to reports, this year is the first time that LG has executed its production plan without delay, which will also help improve its performance. And while Samsung doesn't get more orders than last year, its revenue is expected to grow as it offers a larger share of panels for the higher-end Pro and Pro Max versions, which are more expensive. Of all the panels supplied by Samsung, about 60% are intended for the iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max.
At present, Apple's iPhone 16 series OLED screen panels are still supplied by Samsung Display and LG Display. Samsung Display is expected to supply about 80 million OLED panels by the end of the year, while LG Display is expected to supply about 43 million panels. In addition, Apple has officially approved Samsung Display and LG Display for mass production of OLED screens for the upcoming iPhone 16 Pro series.

Production of the new iPhone 16 series began in June and has been ramped up to sufficient quantities in July to ensure availability in mid-September. Apple is expected to produce 90 million iPhone 16 series phones, while the production of OLED panels will reach 120 million units in 2024. Samsung Display is expected to produce 80 million panels, while LG Display is expected to produce 43 million panels, an increase of more than 10 million panels compared to the production of the iPhone 15.
LG Display recently won an order for the iPhone 16 Pro OLED panel after receiving an order for the iPhone 16 Pro Max OLED panel. This is the first time that LG Display has been approved earlier than Samsung Display, marking an important development in LG Display's partnership with Apple, which could affect the future landscape of Apple's device display supply chain.
According to the news that has been exposed so far, Apple is expected to release the iPhone 16 series of phones in September. As the release date approaches, more information about these new iPhones will gradually become clearer.
