China-Singapore Jingwei, September 18 Recently, the National School of Development of Peking University and Zhaopin.com jointly released the "Research on the Potential Impact of AI Large Models on the Mainland Labor Market: 2024" (hereinafter referred to as the "Report"). According to the report, in the first half of 2024, among the top five artificial intelligence occupations with a year-on-year growth rate in the number of job openings, natural language processing positions in the field of large language models ranked first, with a year-on-year increase of 111%, and deep learning positions ranked third with 61%, ranking among the top in the artificial intelligence industry with an average monthly salary of 24,007 yuan and 26,279 yuan respectively.
The demand for AI talents has increased, salaries have risen, and the requirements for academic qualifications and experience have further increased
According to the report, in the first half of 2024, the top five artificial intelligence occupations with year-on-year growth in the number of job openings include natural language processing (111%) and deep learning (61%) positions in large language models, robot algorithm positions in robotics (76%), intelligent driving system engineers (49%), and navigation algorithms (47%) in autonomous driving.
The report mentions that in the first half of 2024, the average monthly salary of natural language processing and deep learning positions will be 24,007 yuan and 26,279 yuan respectively, ranking among the top artificial intelligence-related positions, and the year-on-year growth rate of monthly salary will be 11% and 2% respectively, leading the growth rate.
From the perspective of recruitment requirements, the requirements for job seekers' academic qualifications and experience are higher and are further improving. In terms of academic qualifications, in the first half of this year, 35.8% of natural language processing positions required master's and doctoral degrees, an increase of 5.5 percentage points over the same period last year, and 45.5% of deep learning positions required master's and doctoral degrees, an increase of 1.5 percentage points over the same period last year.
For occupations with a high "large language model impact index", the proportion of recruitment has decreased, and the recruitment requirements have increased
According to the report, in 2024, the "large language model impact index" of editor/translator and personnel/administration/finance/legal affairs will be 0.89 and 0.68 respectively, an increase of 0.09 and 0.04 from 2022, respectively, and the indices of customer service/operation and software/hardware research and development will be 0.75 and 0.65, respectively, down 0.04 and 0.07 from 2022.
According to the analysis of the report, the decline in the index of customer service/operation and software/hardware research and development indicates that the work content within their professions that are susceptible to the impact of large models is decreasing, which to a certain extent reflects the rapid adjustment of the recruitment of this profession to large model technology. Analyzing the reasons behind it, R&D and operation are common in the Internet industry, and the Internet is an industry that is at the forefront of technological development and constantly innovating and changing, so the acceptance and application of large-scale model technology is also faster, and adjustments are made faster in the recruitment of relevant positions.
The higher the "large language model impact index", the greater the proportion of recruitment volume in 2022-2024, and the higher the requirements for academic qualifications and experience. Occupations with a high "large language model impact index" have a decrease in the proportion of people receiving deliveries.
According to the report, the number of positions in customer service/operation and sales/business development with high indices in the first half of 2024 will decrease by more than 2 and 5 percentage points respectively compared with 2022. In the first half of 2024, the proportion of positions requiring a bachelor's degree or above will increase by 1-4 percentage points compared with 2022.
It is worth noting that the "large language model impact index" of software/hardware R&D and operation and maintenance/testing is relatively high, and the proportion of recruitment positions in the first half of 2024 will decrease compared with 2022, but the proportion of the number of deliveries will increase by about 0.5 percentage points. This reflects the lag of the supply side in the process of technological development and labor market restructuring.
Beijing ranks first in the country in the number of AI-related jobs
The report evaluates the development level of the artificial intelligence industry in 296 cities above the prefecture-level city in China, and obtains the "artificial intelligence development index" of each city. The top 30 cities are mainly concentrated in first-tier cities and provincial capitals, but also include some economically developed cities on the eastern coast.
In the first half of 2024, the number of AI-related jobs recruited in Beijing accounted for 19.1% of the country's total, and the number of AI jobs received accounted for 14.3% of the country's total, ranking first in the country. In addition, Beijing has the largest number of AI patents and universities in the country.
Shenzhen and Shanghai ranked second and third, and their artificial intelligence jobs, job seekers, and related patent applications ranked second and third in the country, with outstanding advantages in industrial foundation, technological innovation, and talent supply. Hangzhou ranked fifth, with outstanding performance in patent innovation. Wuhan ranks eighth, second only to Beijing in terms of the number of universities. In addition, provincial capitals such as Guangzhou, Xi'an, Jinan, Zhengzhou, and Changchun also have great advantages in the number of universities. Suzhou, Wuxi, Dongguan and other non-provincial capitals on the eastern coast mainly rely on artificial intelligence jobs and talent supply.
