On September 19, Mr. Bhasser, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Digital Economy and Society (DE) of Thailand, held a press conference on Thailand's cybersecurity development achievements, saying that Thailand ranked 7th out of 194 countries in the world in the 2024 Global Cybersecurity Index (GCI) released by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU).
According to Baser, the rankings are measured by five main areas, namely law, technology and organization, capacity development and international cooperation. Thailand scored 99.22 points in the ranking, a significant improvement from the previous ranking of 44th, making Thailand one of the leading countries in cybersecurity Tier 1, which means that Thailand has also become one of the model countries in the global cyber field.
He further said that the GCI score 2024 reflects Thailand's determination to develop and strengthen cybersecurity in many aspects, which is also inseparable from the joint efforts of all departments, organizations and everyone. Nonetheless, the ranking report also reflects areas where Thailand still needs to be further developed, such as improving laws related to child online protection or improving technological capacity to respond to modern threats.
