In an old weapons factory in Oviedo, Spain, SpY transformed 6,000 square meters of space to launch one of his large-scale installations, Blankes 2. The installation consists of hundreds of recycled blankets. Following the Blanket project in Chengdu, the installation forms a vast sea of glittering gold, changing with the daytime light and wind. Natural airflow flows through the blanket, creating a choreographed loop that creates an ever-changing visual experience. As the blankets ripple, they create subtle sonic textures, creating a whispering, immersive soundscape that reverberates through the space.
The wind blows the wave pattern on the blanket, making SpY's work a dynamic work of art in constant motion. As the blanket continues to move, a sound texture subtly emerges, taking on an enveloping soundscape. Visitors walk through the installation, experiencing reflective surfaces and changing soundscapes from different angles. This interaction is enhanced by the ever-changing light during the day, immersing the space and its visitors in changing reflections and acoustic whispers. The minimalist designs of the Madrid-based urban artist combine form, movement, and time, encouraging reflection and interaction. Blanket 2 invites visitors to reconsider their perception of space, movement, and the positive role they play in their environment.
