With the advent of the "Double 11" consumption tide, a large number of consumers shop through online platforms, among them, criminals carry out fraudulent activities in the name of platform returns and refunds, and criminals obtain consumers' shopping information through illegal channels in advance, falsely claiming to be e-commerce or logistics customer service, using words such as "goods have quality problems", "express delivery loss" and "membership recharge problems" to falsely claim to make excess compensation, and stimulate the victim's "profit and risk avoidance" psychology
Then induce consumers to leave the official platform, download fake apps, or join WeChat groups for compensation, so as to further obtain consumers' bank card numbers, mobile phone numbers, verification codes and other information, and finally transfer consumers' money away, and criminals require victims to transfer and remit money for various reasons such as "activating the refund channel" and "paying a refund deposit", saying that they will return the money to the victim together with compensation, and when the victim transfers the money to the account provided by the criminals, they will induce the victim to continue to transfer money under other pretexts. The China Consumers Association issued a reminder to consumers
01Understand the return and refund process
There is no so-called "refund link", and there is no need to download other apps, and it is likely to be a scammer if you ask to download another App or scan the code to join the group. If the express delivery is lost, the logistics company will generally compensate the seller (sender) for the same amount of goods and then the seller will re-ship the goods, and will not take the initiative to contact the recipient for a refund, let alone provide a "refund link".
Anyone who receives a call from a person claiming to be a "merchant" or "customer service" claiming that the goods need to be refunded or re-paid, must go through the formal process and log in to the official platform to verify the authenticity as soon as possible. Consumers can check the contact information of home appliances, clocks and watches, and home improvement service providers through the "China Consumers Association Help You Check" applet.
02Protection of personal information
Return and refund fraud is mostly carried out by illegally using consumers' personal information, so it is necessary to improve the awareness of personal information protection in daily life, do not click on unfamiliar links, do not scan unfamiliar QR codes, do not download unfamiliar software, do not join unfamiliar group chats, especially to protect their ID numbers, bank card accounts, verification codes and other important information to prevent online fraud.
Consumers can download the "National Anti-Fraud Center" app and turn on the "Call Warning" function to help identify and warn of suspicious calls, text messages, and fraudulent apps.
03Be wary of card-related transfers
The final step of online fraud is to trick the victim into transferring money. Therefore, regardless of the reason, if there is a request to provide bank card account numbers, passwords, transfers, remittances, etc., you should be highly vigilant and stop immediately.
