Artists Xu Li, Shi Guo, Gao Yimian, representative of former Prime Minister Yukio Hatoyama of Japan, Chen Chen, Minister Counselor of the Ministry of Culture of the People's Republic of China Embassy in Japan, Wang Ping, Chairman of the Board of Directors of China Central Television Calligraphy and Painting Channel, Seno Shimizu, Chairman of the Japan-China Association, and Luo Yuquan, Director of the Chinese Cultural Center, attended the opening ceremony and delivered speeches, and more than 100 Chinese and Japanese art figures, Chinese entrepreneurs, artists and media in Japan attended the opening ceremony.

This exhibition selects the representative works and latest masterpieces of two of the most representative artists of contemporary China, Xu Li and Shi Guo. From this point of view, a series of touring exhibitions of contemporary Chinese artists in Japan began. The works in this exhibition cover more than 70-80 works of art such as oil painting, ink painting, calligraphy, and mixed media.

Xu Li was born in Fujian, China in 1961, graduated from the Fine Arts Department of Fujian Normal University in 1985, graduated from the "First Graduate Class of Fine Arts Education" of Southwest Normal University of the State Education Commission in 1988, taught in the Fine Arts Department of the School of Art of Jimei University from 1985 to 1995, joined the Chinese Artists Association in 1990, and served as the deputy director and director of the Fine Arts Department of the School of Art of Jimei University from 1990 to 1995, and a professor of Xiamen University. From 1993 to 2010, he has been the leader of the Artists Association and the Culture and Art Federation of Xiamen and Fujian Province. From 2010 to 2023, he successively held leadership positions in the China Federation of Literary and Art Circles and the China Artists Association, and concurrently served as the director of the National Art Creation Committee on Major Themes and the honorary president of the Beijing Contemporary Chinese Freehand Oil Painting Research Institute. At the same time, he also served as a professor in important professional art colleges in China, such as the doctoral supervisor of the Chinese Academy of Arts.

Xu Li's works

Xu Li's works combine the tradition of Chinese ink painting, traditional Western oil painting, and Western modernist art techniques into a furnace, with majestic momentum and lofty artistic conception, forming an open, inclusive, expressive and innovative form of ink painting. He has made three visits to Tibet and the Silk Road in the Western Regions, and has created a large number of works that reflect the life customs of ethnic minorities in the western region.

Born in the ancient city of Xi'an in 1953, Shi Guo began to study traditional Chinese painting and calligraphy in 1970 at the age of 17 under his father, Shi Lu, a famous modern Chinese painter. Shi Lu is a modern and contemporary Chinese calligrapher and painter, landscape, flower and bird painter, Shi Lu's innovative spirit makes it full of creativity and distinctive personality in landscape, figures, flowers and birds, calligraphy, seals, poetry, literature, art theory, etc., his early painting style is biased towards realism, with a solid and rigorous brush, created a woodcut printmaking works that reflect the Anti-Japanese War and the New Democratic Revolution and other forms of realistic artworks, the later painting style is strange and vigorous, both magnificent and far-reaching, swallowing mountains and rivers of landscape paintings, There are also large-scale freehand flower and bird works with strong pen power.

Shi Guo was admitted to the Chinese Painting Department of Xi'an Academy of Fine Arts in 1977 and graduated in 1982. From 1982 to 1985, he worked as an art officer at the Xi'an Federation of Literary and Art Circles, and in 1985, he was employed by the Zhuhai Federation of Literary and Art Circles in Guangdong Province, responsible for the establishment of the Zhuhai Art Academy, and became a member of the Chinese Artists Association in the same year. From 1986 to 1989, he served as the vice president of Zhuhai Fine Art Academy. In 1994, he worked in the Zhuhai Artists Association, serving as the director of the Theory Department of the Artists Association and the editor-in-chief of Zhuhai Art News. He resigned in 1995 to become a freelance painter and went to the United States to engage in art activities and do a year-long investigation. Since the 90s, he has been engaged in the research and creation of contemporary Chinese "experimental ink" art, and is one of the founding representative painters of this school. Since 2004, he has been teaching "Experimental Ink Painting" at the Department of Chinese Painting of Xi'an Academy of Fine Arts. In 2004, he was appointed as the director of the art teaching and research department and associate professor of Zhuhai College of Beijing Institute of Technology. In the same year, he was elected as "2004 Zhuhai Cultural Person of the Year". From 2005 to 2016, he was a professor at Zhuhai College of Beijing Institute of Technology and dean of the School of Design and Art. He retired in 2016 and is now a freelance artist.

Inheriting his father's innovative spirit, Shi Guo resigned in 1995 to become a freelance painter and went to United States to engage in artistic activities as a one-year investigation. Since the 90s, Shi Guo has been engaged in the research and creation of contemporary Chinese "experimental ink painting", exploring the wonderful artistic conception of ink painting naturally formed in porcelain plates, etc., and has become one of the founding representative painters of the "experimental ink painting" school of painting, and is also unique in calligraphy.
