Produced by Naomi Kawase and Jia Zhangke, written and directed by young director Pengfei, starring Wu Yanshu, Hidezawa Hayabusa, Hayabusa Kunimura, Masatoshi Nagase, and shintaro Akiyama and Zhang Wei, the feature film "See Nara Again" will be released on March 19. Today (March 8), director Pengfei came to Paragon Cinemas (Taikoo Li Store) to participate in the roadshow and shared the behind-the-scenes story of the filming with the Chengdu audience.
The movie "See Nara Again" tells the story of a touching mother-daughter relationship spanning 60 years: after Japan's defeat in 1945, Chen Huiming (Wu Yanshu) adopted a Japanese orphan named Chen Lihua. In 1994, Chen Lihua returned to Japan to find her biological parents and maintained correspondence with Chen Huiming for nearly a decade. In 2005, Chen Huiming, who has not received a letter from Lihua for a long time, travels to Japan alone, and with the help of the orphaned second generation Ozawa (Played by Hidezawa) and the retired Japanese policeman (Played by Hayabusa Kunimura), he begins a long search for his relatives...
In order to make this film, director Pengfei experienced life in Nara for eight months, and added many real details of life to depict the current situation of japanese orphans, such as eating sauerkraut dumplings, listening to Peking Opera, singing Peking Opera, etc.
Speaking of Wu Yanshu, the star of this film, many fans are not strangers: "The Girl's Heart Grandmother" in "Beijing Meets Seattle's Love Letter", the rural grandmother in "Love and Affection"... No matter how much the role, the role played by Wu Yanshu often has distinct personality characteristics, and Grandma Chen in "See Nara Again" this time, she acted very moderately, but she was impressed by the audience. When talking about the cooperation with Wu Yanshu, director Pengfei said: Teacher Wu is like a big parent, very tolerant of young people, willing to give, "She will give me a variety of (acting) ways, try to meet my multiple ideas." ”
The end of the film is an open ending, without explaining Chen Lihua's whereabouts, and Pengfei does not give everyone a positive answer: "She may have died, and it is possible to marry somewhere else." I don't want the story of this movie to end here, I want to show the psychological changes of the three people through the process of searching, and I don't want to say it too directly. ”
Talking about the problems encountered in the filming of the film, Pengfei said that the biggest problem is the problem of time, as well as the problem of language and communication. "The film was only shot for 19 days, and the first day was particularly unsmooth, and then I invented some gestures, and the next day the efficiency improved a lot." Talking about the help brought to him by the two executive producers, Naomi Kawase and Jia Zhangke, Pengfei expressed his gratitude: Naomi Kawase has made a lot of efforts in the selection of Japanese actors and shooting guarantees, and director Jia Zhangke took him to edit the film with the editor to make the expression of the film language smoother.
Director Peng Fei was at the event site
Compared with the previous work "The Taste of Rice Blossoms", the upcoming "See You Nara Again" also presents a fresh literary style, and Pengfei said that his next film may try to change the style and tell the story of brotherhood, which may be filmed in Fujian. In the previous test screening, "See Nara Again" was well received, with a Douban score of 7.8 points, and actor Zhang Yi said after watching the film that the film was "too good to be painful".
