Leshan Confucian Temple, formerly known as jiadingfu confucian temple, was built during the Tang Wude period (618-626), rebuilt in the early years of the Qing Kangxi Dynasty, cultivated and built during the Jiaqing and Daoguang years, and has been preserved to this day. From 1938 to 1946, Wuhan University moved west to the Leshan Confucian Temple to run a school, serving the country through education and singing. In April 1991, the Leshan Confucian Temple was listed as a cultural relics protection unit in Sichuan Province.
Leshan Confucian Temple is located in the central urban area of Leshan, with a construction area of about 3600 square meters. There are pan ponds, star gates, Dacheng Hall, Chongsheng Ancestral Hall, Sacred Domain, Famous Eunuch Ancestral Hall, Xiangxian Ancestral Hall, Dongxi Temple and other buildings. Each single building is set according to the etiquette building regulations, staggered, moderate in volume, coordinated in proportion, rich in layers, and combined into a complete courtyard space.
Hu Fangping introduced that in October 2019, Leshan invested more than 15 million yuan to start the first comprehensive maintenance, protection and revitalization project of the Leshan Confucian Temple in the 70 years since the founding of New China. The scope of the project includes 15 individual items in the Temple of Literature, such as the Star Gate, the Dacheng Hall, the Chongsheng Ancestral Hall, the Xiangxian Ancestral Hall and other buildings, as well as the courtyard of the temple. In strict accordance with the principles of "no change to the original state", "minimum intervention" and "four originals" (original form system, original structure, raw materials, original technology), the disease is eliminated through repair, the historical information of the Leshan Confucian Temple is preserved, and a solemn and elegant humanistic space is created.
After the renovation, the Leshan Confucian Temple is divided into three parts: the sacrifice exhibition, the cultural exhibition and the Wuhan University westward migration commemorative exhibition. The exhibition is located in the Dacheng Hall and the Chongsheng Ancestral Hall, and in accordance with the traditional regulations of the Confucius Temple in Qufu, the traditional Confucian ritual of sacrifice focusing on the pilgrimage of the Confucius Temple is restored. The cultural exhibition Chen is located in the North and South Halls of the Temple of Literature, the Ceremonial Instrument Room, the Ancestral Hall of the Famous Eunuchs, and the Zunjing Chongwen Pavilion. Located at the Dacheng Gate of the Temple of Literature, the memorial exhibition of The Westward Migration of Wuhan University, "Beacon Westward Migration Road - Wuhan University in Leshan", gives the Leshan Confucian Temple a unique cultural value among the national Confucian Temples, and enriches the connotation of the urban context.
In order to strengthen the revitalization and utilization and tell the story of the Temple of Literature, Leshan has established the Temple of Literature Museum, which is responsible for the protection and management, interpretation and research, display and dissemination and free opening of the Leshan Temple of Literature; around the overall arrangement and deployment of the "Year of Park Construction and Upgrading" in Leshan, the construction of the Leshan Temple of Literature and Expo Industrial Park, and the creation of a demonstration project for the comprehensive protection and utilization of cultural relics. Hu Fangping said that relying on the demonstration project of the comprehensive protection and utilization of cultural relics in leshan Confucian Temple and the construction of the Cultural and Expo Industrial Park, Jiazhou Historical and Cultural Park is also under planning and construction, promoting the protection, inheritance and utilization of Leshan Historical and Cultural City as a whole, realizing the integrated development of Leshan Youshan, Youjiang and Youcheng, and helping the construction of Leshan Bashu Cultural Tourism Corridor as an important tourist destination in the world.
