Today, 65 years: George McCann becomes the first 1W pointer in NBA history

Live Bar Feb. 19 – On this day in 1956, Lakers player George McCann became the NBA's first 1W pointer.

"Mr. Basketball" Basketball) McCann announced his complete retirement after the 1955–56 season, the second time he retired (previously announcing his retirement at the end of the 1953–54 season and returning a year later).

McCann won three scoring titles and five championships in his career. He was inducted into the Nye Smith Basketball Hall of Fame in 1959 and one of the NBA's 50 biggest stars in 1996.
