In October, Hangzhou City is gentle and humid, and the second Hangzhou Modern Music Festival kicks off at the Zhejiang Conservatory of Music, adding a modern art atmosphere to this historic city.
Co-sponsored by Zhejiang Conservatory of Music and the People's Government of Xihu District, this year's Hangzhou Modern Music Festival brings together nearly 300 well-known musicians from national art academies and professional colleges, and has held 6 concerts, 2 "Art Creation Award" competitions, 1 dance performance, 5 composer and dancer lectures, 1 opera and chamber opera seminar, exploring the boundaries and future of modern music and art, broadening the academic horizons of teachers and students, and also bringing fresh and rich art experience to Hangzhou citizens.
In the 2nd Hangzhou Modern Music Festival, which is full of wonderful and masters, the special concert commissioned by the "Portrait" Art Innovation Center, the final concert of the "Yichuang Award" International Chamber Opera Composition Competition, and the final concert of the "Yichuang Award" International Orchestral Composition Competition were unveiled as important links.
As a far-reaching initiative of The Hangzhou Modern Music Festival, the "Yichuang Award" has developed with the Hangzhou Modern Music Festival, which and the Yichuang International Music Center are built by Zhejiang Conservatory of Music and the West Lake District Government relying on yichuang Town, aiming to present an international high-end quality music festival while creating a high-end international art exchange platform, an excellent young artistic talent training platform and an open art popularization platform. Nowadays, a new model of artistic talent training with the joint assistance of universities and social forces has gradually formed a new model of "selecting the best + cultivating the best".
In 2020, the first "Art Innovation Award" International Orchestral Composition Competition received a total of 116 entries from 23 countries and regions, both in participating countries and regions, or the number of entries has reached the highest number of similar composition competitions in China. Through the evaluation of the jury of Ye Xiaogang, vice chairman of the China Federation of Literary and Art Circles and doctoral supervisor of the Central Conservatory of Music, for nearly two weeks, 10 award-winning works were finally selected, which were presented at the first Hangzhou Modern Music Festival. In the final of the International Orchestral Composition Competition, the top 6 of them won the first, second and third prizes. The last four winners of the "Excellence Award" and 2 outstanding young composers selected by the organizing committee from around the world settled in Yichuang Town to receive a week-long style investigation, life experience, exchange of ideas and creative guidance, and created commissioned works.
During the period, young composers visited Nanshan Bookstore, Xiling Printing Society Ruins, Zhejiang Art Museum, China Academy of Art, Faxi Temple and other cultural attractions, and studied, thought and exchanged a lot of questions about the integration and innovation of traditional Chinese culture and modern and contemporary art. Hu Yixuan of the Central Conservatory of Music is one of the young composers stationed in, "While visiting, I fully discussed the linkage between art and music with other young composers, and finalized the theme of the commissioned works as painting and music. Hu Yixuan said that this is an artistic collision full of academic and thinking patterns, and it is also a rare and valuable opportunity for art workers, "This form of commission is one of the few in China, and participating in this pioneering cultivation and creation activity is the luck of our music art workers."
At the 2nd Hangzhou Modern Music Festival, the special concert commissioned by the "Portrait" Art Innovation Center performed by the Shanghai Contemporary Orchestra is the final presentation of these commissioned talents. At the same time, the final concert of the new "Yichuang Award" International Orchestra Composition Competition and the final of the newly added "Yichuang Award" International Chamber Opera Composition Competition this year were held at the same time, and finally formed a benign rolling training model.
The two editions of the "Art Innovation Award" attracted the attention and participation of nearly 300 artists from more than 40 countries around the world. This innovative model not only allows young artists to display their talents and works, and have the opportunity to cooperate with world-renowned orchestras, but also in the process of "selecting the best + cultivating the top", protecting and discovering those young composers with vitality, and giving them sufficient sunshine and rain, those immature works can blossom and bear fruit through the cultivation of masters, and cultivate the strength of Modern Chinese music.
