Wang Geng, a famous philosopher of the Ming Dynasty, studied in a private school in the township when he was young, because his family was poor and could not finish reading, and later followed his father to Shandong to do business. He often put the "Filial Piety Sutra", "Analects", and "University" in his sleeve, and whenever he was a learned person, he would ask for advice, and over time, he could also casually explain these classics.
Once, when his father went to serve in labor, and the cold weather could only be freshened with cold water, Wang Gen saw it and said bitterly, "How can a son watch his father suffer? "Therefore, in the future, there are any chores that I will do on behalf of my father."
He is not only good at learning, but also good at business, "self-reliant family road day by day", becoming a rich family.
Although Wang Geng did not become an official in his lifetime, because he often paid attention to understanding the truth in the Confucian classics, he also had a deep learning over time, so that those who specialized in the study of Confucian classics could not compare with him.
As we all know, another famous identity of Wang Geng was that of Mr. Wang Yangming (Shou Ren), who later turned to the school and founded the Taizhou School of Yangming Xinxue.
In fact, it was not until he was 38 years old, when his family was rich and already had a thin name, that he went to Jiangxi to visit the gate of Wang Yangming and pay homage to his disciples. At first, Wang Yangming felt that he had a proud personality, so he changed his name to the word "Geng" with a static meaning; but Wang Gong still often argued with the teacher, "always dissatisfied with the teacher's saying", insisting on his own views, not only "repeatedly pushing difficulties and bending the end of the commission", but also "not sticking to the note" and "following the teacher's saying", so he created his own "Huainan Gewu Theory". He advocated: "That is, things are learning, and things are the Tao." If a person is trapped in poverty and freezes his body, he also loses his original learning. Emphasize the fundamentals of being a country under the heavens, and take "settling down" as the starting point of ethics and morality.
In the second year of Jiajing (1523), Wang Geng went north to Beijing, gave lectures along the way, and was valued by all parties and caused a sensation, "entering the mountains and forests to seek seclusion, crossing the city well to inspire foolishness, gathering along the way to speak, and arriving at the Beijing Division." Wang Yangming was greatly angered by the news and tried to summon him back to "impose severe sanctions", but he could not reach it, and his academic ideas had spread everywhere.
In the fifth year of Jiajing (1526), Wang Geng was hired by Wang Yaohu, the prefect of Taizhou, to give a lecture at the Anding Academy, propagating the viewpoint that "the people use the Tao for daily use", emphasizing that "knowing is knowing, not knowing is not knowing, is the conscience of heaven". Scholars flocked to the school, which prepared the conditions for the establishment of the Taizhou School.
Wang Geng's disciples were mostly ordinary people, but there were also many famous scholars such as Xu Fan, Yan Jun, Wang Dong, Wang Xi, Luo Rufang, He Xinyin and others, and there were 487 disciples to the Five Traditions, and Luo Rufang was the one who had achieved great achievements. Huang Zongxi claimed that this faction could "fight the dragon snake with bare hands."
Wang Geng, throughout his life, refused to join the army, and pointed directly at the ruler: "Let the servant father and son be happy under the rule, and still explain this learning with the second and third sons, the so-called teacher Daoli, then there are many good people, many good people, then the court is right, and the world is ruled", so he was denounced as a "heretic".
In the eighteenth year of Jiajing (1539), the 57-year-old Wang Geng was already ill. The following winter, when he was seriously ill and dying, he said to his son Wang Jiao: "Ru Zhixue, I am worried! He hoped that the Taizhou School would continue. After his death, hundreds of people were sent to the funeral.
