Genus Pods
Powder ball, a hydrangea ball. The bark is wrinkled, the leaves are green and slightly black, and there are two kinds of sizes. Hemp leaf small flowers, a stalk and many flowers gathered, round white like a tassel, the first green after the white, like a ball, its lace has a purple halo for the most. It is customary to use the large one as a powder ball and the small one as a hydrangea ball. There is a red hydrangea in Min, but it is not the same as the name of the pink dough. Hemp balls, sea trees, can be embroidered.
------ [Qing] Chen Shuzi "Flower Mirror"
Chen Shuzi of the Qing Dynasty included the powder dough in the "Flower Mirror" as early as possible. When Chen Shuzhi wrote "Flower Mirror", the botanical classification at that time was not as developed as it is now, but it was simply to distinguish the powder ball hydrangea by the size of the flower. And now there are many kinds of folk commonly known as hydrangeas, which are a bit confusing with the official scientific name. In our lives, it is often called "wood hydrangea" and "grass hydrangea". Literally, it can be seen that the former is woody and the latter is herbaceous.
The "hydrangea" commonly referred to refers to two types of plants - some plants of the genus Pods in the honeysuckle family. Such as qionghua, hydrangea pods, snowball pods (pink flower), etc., folk collectively known as wood hydrangea; tiger ear grass family of eight immortals Hydronea macrophylla, also known as grass hydrangea (hydrangea), Japan called hydrangea. Today I would like to introduce the snowball pod (powder ball), which contains the original variant and a variant, the butterfly play bead flower.
