The april baby can't eat milk, cyanosis in the lips, and the breathing is laborious, which is the narrowing of the acoustic doorway, which causes only a gap the size of a grain of rice in the respiratory tract, and there is a risk of suffocation at any time. Parents took the children to a number of hospitals in Yiyang and Changsha, and finally the children's respiratory intervention team of Hunan Provincial People's Hospital opened the "door of life" and successfully escaped from danger.

The baby boy's respiratory tract is only a large gap of rice grains, which may suffocate at any time, and endoscopic interventional surgery opens the "door of life"

On February 17, 2020, a young couple carrying a 4-month-old baby boy came to the Interventional Respiratory Ward of the Children's Medical Center of Hunan Provincial People's Hospital and anxiously asked the medical staff for help: "My son is crying so much that he has not been breastfeeding for several days..."

The medical staff found that the child Xixi (pseudonym) was restless, his lips were mildly cyanotic, his breathing was difficult, and he made a "whirring" sound in his throat. Immediately clean up the child's respiratory secretions, undergo oxygen inhalation and nebulization treatment, but the situation did not improve. Chief Physician Huang Han carefully examined the child and patiently asked for medical history, considering that the child's breathing difficulties should be caused by upper airway obstruction, and bronchoscopy was required to determine the cause.

Although it was during the COVID-19 epidemic, the provincial doctor's child respiratory intervention team quickly arranged bronchoscopy for Xixi while re-screening and reasonable protection according to the process. Under the microscope, it was found that the bustling subglottic cavity (commonly known as the "throat eye") was oval and narrow, leaving only a breathing channel the size of a grain of rice with a diameter of 2 to 3 mm, resulting in the child's breathing difficulties and the risk of suffocation at any time.

After coordinating with the Anesthesia Medical Center, the Surgical Department and the Endoscopic Center to open up the green channel, the respiratory intervention team of the Children's Medical Center urgently performed transbronchoscopic subglottic stenosis endoscopic interventional surgery for Xi xi under general anesthesia, and through laser, balloon dilation and other treatment methods, quickly lifted the obstruction, smoothed the airway, and successfully opened the "door of life" for Xi Xi.

After returning to the ward, Xi Xi was assisted by a non-invasive ventilator, and all vital signs were stable, and the situation of shortness of breath and asthma was significantly improved, her spirit was better, and her feeding intake gradually increased. After the noninvasive ventilator was removed, the doctor performed a fibrotomy review for him, which showed that the originally narrow subglottic lumen had basically returned to normal size and could be discharged home.

Huang Han, chief physician of the Department of Respiratory Interventions of the Children's Medical Center of Hunan Provincial People's Hospital, reminded that during the epidemic period, it is necessary to reduce going out, but if the condition is urgent, it is necessary not to avoid medical treatment; when going out for medical treatment, you must wear a mask, take public transportation as little as possible, and truthfully provide medical staff with relevant information on the condition and epidemic prevention to avoid delaying treatment.
