On October 28, the 2021 World Event City Development Conference and Chengdu Sports Industry Conference, hosted by the Chengdu Municipal People's Government and the Executive Committee of the Chengdu Universiade and undertaken by the Chengdu Municipal Sports Bureau, was held in Chengdu, Sichuan Province.
The theme of the conference is "New Stage, New Opportunity, New Momentum". In the opening year of the "14th Five-Year Plan", we will focus on the construction of Chengdu World Event City, explore the development path that has both regional characteristics and international influence, promote the implementation of the strategic concept of "running games, camping cities, developing industries and benefiting the people", and stimulate new thinking, explore new paths and gather new forces for the development of the national sports industry and the preparation of major sports events.

The total scale of Chengdu's sports industry has exceeded 80 billion yuan, which is accelerating to become an important increment in economic development. Chengdu has made frequent efforts in the field of sports events – in addition to the World University Games scheduled for next year, and the World Table Tennis Championships, the next three years will also host major international events such as the 2023 Asian Cup, the 2024 Tangyou Cup and the 2025 World Games.
In September this year, Chengdu officially released the "Outline for the Construction of Chengdu World Event City", proposing that in the future, we should focus on building a world event city system of "two cities, four centers and one pole", and promote sports to help urban development and integrate into citizens' lives at a higher level. The holding of this development conference coincides with the important node of Chengdu's comprehensive entry into the "golden period" of the construction of the world's famous event cities, and the participants explore the road of rapid development of the famous city of the event. Based on the faster promotion of the construction of Chengdu World Event City and the better promotion of the high-quality development of the sports industry, this year's development conference also invited a number of experts and scholars at home and abroad to exchange ideas and share ideas around topics such as events, industries and cities.
Marco Nazari, regional general manager of Nielsen Sports International, said in the video sharing that sporting events are merging with more and more forms of entertainment and becoming more entertaining. Gaining a deep understanding of consumer lifestyles and concerns will help enhance the spectator experience, and the use of technology on and off the field will be a key driver of immersive experiences. These views provide a reference for Chengdu to focus on building a world event city system of "two capitals, four centers and one pole".
Simon Chadwick, a professor at the Lyon Business School in France and director of the Eurasian Sports Industry Center, shared the practical results of Doha's transformation of the city through sports. He proposed that by holding sports events, the city's related supporting services can also be rapidly developed, and then use these infrastructure construction as a basis to further promote the national development plan. At the same time, he also suggested that Chengdu can create its own unique business card according to its own goals and supporting strategic plans, so that everyone can have a sense of participation.
