"To eat vegetables, you must eat cabbage hearts, and you must be a member of the People's Liberation Army when you are born." The motherland needs you, and it is supremely glorious to join the army..." In the past few days, the recruitment propaganda video of Xu Yuehua, a national moral model and "bench mother", has exploded on the Internet.

Xu Yuehua, born in 1956 in Bantang Township, Yuetang District, Xiangtan City, Hunan Province, lost his legs for some reason at the age of 12 and has been walking on a bench ever since. In 1974, she became an employee of the Municipal Social Welfare Institute, and for decades, she took care of the children of the welfare home, and was affectionately known as "Bench Mother". In 2011, Xu Yuehua was named a national moral model.

In December 2010, Xu Yuehua encouraged her only son, Lai Mingming, to join the army, and relatives and friends advised her: "You yourself are not in good health, and your husband has been ill for many years, how can you bear to send your only son to the army thousands of miles away?" In this regard, Xu Yuehua firmly replied: "Without the care of the party and the government, there would be no me today. Now that my son is older and he is yearning for the military camp, I fully support him to join the army and contribute to the cause of national defense. ”

Fast forward more than 10 years, and with the encouragement of his mother, Lai Mingzhi took root in the barracks, practiced his skills diligently, and successively participated in major operations such as peacekeeping and exercises, and is now an outstanding cadre of a certain unit in the northern theater.

According to the person in charge of the Recruitment Office of Xiangtan City, Hunan Province, in recent years, Xu Yuehua has carried out more than 20 national defense education sessions in local schools, and her deeds of supporting her son's Jiangong Military Camp have touched and inspired countless people. This year, in order to further expand the influence of conscription propaganda, they specially hired Xu Yuehua as a conscription propaganda ambassador. "I feel very honored to be able to do something for the conscription." Xu Yuehua told reporters that after receiving an invitation to shoot a short video of recruitment propaganda, she was very happy and familiar with the shooting script over and over again, afraid that she would not be able to present the best state.

"The typical people around you are the most contagious." According to the leaders of the Xiangtan Military Sub-district, the "bench mother's" support for the army, inspirational stories and her son Lai Mingming's military camp growth experience have a great impact on school-age youth and parents. Since Xu Yuehua served as a recruitment propagandist, the city has set off a wave of enthusiasm for young people of the right age to enlist and parents to actively send their sons to join the army.
