After the fall of the Berlin Wall, the embarrassing "old age" of the last head of East Germany

Recently, there is a hit German drama "Eighty-Nine Years in Germany" (also known as the third season of '83), which continues the first two seasons, starting from 36 hours before the fall of the Berlin Wall. The male protagonist, the Stasi little agent, is hanging all the way, the protagonist is surrounded by brilliance, all kinds of mistakes and collisions, casually using some "careful machines", it once again inadvertently changed history. In the TV series, after the fall of the Berlin Wall, the Stasi boss absconded to Italy with a huge amount of money and began to enjoy life in the mediterranean sea on the grounds of "going deep into the southern European development party organization".

In fact, the interpretation in the TV series is obviously for the pursuit of dramatic conflict, which is too high above life. The real Stasi's last minister, the once invincible Milk, was still a man himself, although his hands were not clean, but he did not directly choose to "run away", but was arrested shortly after the fall of the Berlin Wall, sentenced to 20 years, but only less than ten years in prison before catching up with the "amnesty" and released.

However, after the release of the sentence, Milk immediately fell into embarrassment, a lot of age, but did not even have a pension. In the end, he managed to put together the information to prove that in the 1930s, he had suffered political persecution by Hitler for anti-Nazi activities, and he had to get a related allowance to live in a nursing home with a cheap fee, and barely survived to the beginning of this century.

The protagonist we want to introduce here, Erich Honecker, the last general secretary of East Germany, has a little more decency than the fallen Minister Milke, and finally escaped successfully. However, the experience of wandering away from many countries has also made this old man suffer from the white eyes under the fence and taste the heat and cold of the world.

Now, a mention of General Secretary Honecker. Searching for his information on the Internet, the top one is actually the famous photo - in 1979, at the ceremony celebrating the 30th anniversary of the founding of the GDR, Honecker and Brezhnev embraced each other, passionately "brotherly kiss".

This old man, who served as the general secretary of East Germany for more than ten years, was finally remembered by posterity in this form... It was really others who looked at it, and they were a little embarrassed for him.

This is the right way to open Honecker

As early as the Time of the Third Reich, Honecker, an apprentice, was arrested by the Nazis and imprisoned for more than eight years for propagating communist ideas and participating in and organizing anti-war activities. In the face of the Gestapo's torture, Honecker was determined, never gave up his membership as a Communist Party member, and never betrayed any party organization members, during which he suffered a lot and almost lost his life.

Fortunately, there are two sides to everything, and the persecution experience in his youth also boosted his later political career.

In the 1960s, at the instigation of the Soviet Big Brother, Erich Honecker entered the inner circle of the German Socialist Unity Party (SED) and was the decision-maker and organizer of the construction of the Berlin Wall in August 1961.

A good student of Brezhnev, Honecker came to power in East Germany in the late 1970s, faithfully inheriting the Soviet Model of dogmatic politics and "drawing a pie with bare hands".

This made the East German people, who lived under the watchful eye of the Stasi every day, had to queue up everything they bought, were "monitored" for everything, and said that everything was "risky", mostly scorned the "beautiful blueprint" advocated by Honecker at various congresses.

Thus, the German Socialist Unionist Party and its General Secretary Honecker, who had lost their mass base, were quickly abandoned by their own people after the fall of the Berlin Wall.

After the fall of the Berlin Wall, Honecker was forced to announce his resignation for "health reasons." More than a month later, the Socialist United Party of Germany (KPD) expelled him from the party, and at the same time, the still functioning Supreme Court of the GDR launched an investigation into his "abuse of power and treason". For this reason, Honecker was briefly imprisoned.

Under pressure from the Soviets, the Honeckers were quickly placed in a nursing home on the outskirts of Berlin, where they could still enjoy the treatment of old cadres until March 1991, when they were escorted to Moscow by Soviet military aircraft.

Looking at this situation, the old Honecker and his wife were ready to go into exile in the Soviet Union.

Sadly, however, at the end of the year, the Soviet Union itself collapsed. As a result, the new Russian president, Yeltsin, issued an eviction order. After all, East Germany belonged to the Soviet Union's allies, and since both countries were no longer in existence, it was a great trouble to fly separately, and neither of them owed anyone anything.

In this context, the Chilean Embassy in Russia took in the Honeckers to repay the GDR for hosting a large number of Chilean political asylum seekers after the Chilean coup.

During this time, countries such as North Korea and Syria have also expressed their intention to accept the Honeckers into exile. However, due to the fierce arrest warrant of the Federal Republic of Germany, in July 1992 Honecker was repatriated to a unified Germany, and in November of the same year, he was tried in public.

During this time, Honecker, who was imprisoned, also joined the newly formed German Communist Party. It can be seen that his belief in communism is undoubtedly true love.

German television coverage of Honecker's trial

The focus of Honecker's conviction focused on his order to shoot at fugitives on the border between germany and Germany.

However, relying on the shield of his advanced liver cancer, the relevant trial ended inconclusive.

During this period, Honecker was imprisoned in the same prison where he was imprisoned by the Nazis when he was young.

In January 1993, on the pretext of "curing the disease", Honecker flew to Chile to reunite with his young daughter's family. The following year, Honecker died of liver cancer in Santiago, Chile, at the age of 81.

Honecker had no legacy after his death, and his widow Margaret remained in Chile, relying mainly on subsidies from the Chilean government to survive except for the help of his daughter-in-law, and still firmly believed in the superiority of the socialist system in East Germany, before dying in 2016.

As for Honecker's evidence of corruption, the most conclusive is that his first lady, who was the Minister of Education of East Germany, would go to Paris every month to do her hair, all of which were recorded in the public account.

Mr. and Mrs. Honecker

In fact, it is not enough to say how ugly Honecker's human nature is. During his term of office, under pressure from the Soviet Union, he promoted reconciliation with the Western world, relaxed restrictions on the cultural and artistic circles, and even considered following the example of European and American countries and conditionally abolishing the death penalty.

However, Honecker, who has not been in middle school for a few days, has limited ability, and what is even more fatal is that his "slag" team is not good at anything in domestic and foreign affairs and economy, and his mind is rigid, and he can only engage in armed construction of the army, but does not attach importance to ideological and organizational construction.

To discuss Honecker's communist "feelings", it is recommended that you go to see the video of all the people singing the international anthem at the celebration of the 40th anniversary of the founding of East Germany in 1989. In the film, Honecker's heartfelt excitement and determined eyes when he sang, who would have thought that a month later, the Berlin Wall would fall.
