The Zhitong Finance APP has learned that American Airlines (AAL. US) said Saturday that more than 1,400 flights had been cancelled over the weekend due to staff shortages and bad weather.

The company said it cancelled 551 flights on Saturday, 480 on Sunday and 376 on Friday. FlightAware, a flight tracking site, said American Airlines has delayed 1,000 flights since Friday.

The airline said: "With unexpectedly bad weather conditions, the crew will eventually deviate from the usual flight sequence. ”

The company said it expects to get through this period of abnormal operations soon.

In the face of the upcoming travel season, the company is working hard to recruit more employees.

American Airlines said it would increase manpower across all business units, and by the end of December, nearly 1,800 flight attendants would return to the company from vacation, and more than 600 newly hired flight attendants would join the company.

Southwest Airlines (LUV. US) also said it is actively hiring, with the goal of having about 5,000 new employees by the end of the year.

Earlier this month, Southwest Airlines canceled nearly 2,400 flights over a three-day period due to poor weather and air traffic problems in Florida.
