For the viewer, the art museum is not only a place to provide art exhibitions, but also a place to experience and participate in art.
In order to allow the audience to better participate in "@Wuhan 2021 Chen Shuxia", Hubei Art Museum specially held the @Wuhan • 2021 Face Catholic Education Activity, inviting visitors to pick up paintbrushes and paint themselves in their eyes with contemporary artist Chen Shuxia. The reporter learned from the Hubei Art Museum on November 2 that due to its popularity, the Catholic education activity, which was scheduled to end at the end of October, was postponed to November 14 with the exhibition.

"Knowing yourself" is a question that is always worth thinking about in life
On the wall of the staircase on the first floor of the hall of Hubei Art Museum, self-portraits of the participants of "@Wuhan 2021 Faces" are neatly pasted, and their looks are different and their movements are different. There are many works of a commendable professional level, but most of them are the most original and naïve records of ordinary audiences.
As early as the opening day of the "@Wuhan·2021 Chen Shuxia" exhibition on October 16, the "@Wuhan·2021 Faces" was launched at the same time. On the same day, Chen Shuxia took the lead in painting a self-portrait and pasting it on the display wall of the event, followed by the audience. Works completed by the audience's participation in the event will be exhibited together with the artist's works during the exhibition.
In fact, at the exhibition site in Hall 3 of Hubei Art Museum, Chen Shuxia's past artistic resume is "stored", including her early self-portraits and self-portraits.
"I want to share with you a topic called 'Finding Myself', when I graduated from undergraduate, I was thinking about who I was, what should I do, and what should I do next? I've been looking, and until now, I'm still learning, looking: what do I want to draw, what kind of person do I want to be? For this Catholic activity, I hope that people can draw themselves, because 'knowing yourself' may be a problem that we will always consider in our lives. Chen Shuxia introduced.

"Painting yourself" is an inner confession in the special context of the art museum
Self-portrait is the artist's emotional self-interpretation, a silent dialogue with the viewer across time and space, and "@Wuhan 2021 Faces" is a moment when the artist and the viewer jointly record the unique 2021 faces.
October 27 was the first day that Ms. Wang, a volunteer of Hubei Art Museum, participated in the "@Wuhan 2021 Faces" activity, and she was responsible for distributing painting tools to participants, "@Wuhan • 2021 Faces" public education art project participation certificates, etc. "On October 16th, I came to visit the exhibition and painted myself who had just permed my curly hair, and Teacher Chen (Chen Shuxia) saw that I was holding my mobile phone to draw at the photo, and she said very gently, 'You don't need to paint against the painting, you can paint completely by your own imagination, what personality and what state you are, just show this up'. I have never studied fine arts, but through this activity, I think painting is a very interesting thing. ”
Lei Yating, director of the Public Education Department of Hubei Art Museum, said frankly in an interview with Jimu News: "In recent years, more and more people have taken the art museum as one of the choices for visiting, learning, and leisure friends, and the education projects of the art museum have gradually been welcomed by the public, and its significance is not only to let the public enter the art museum, but also to let the public feel the beautiful experience that art brings to life by participating in the education project."
The series of art education projects of the "@Wuhan 2021 Chen Shuxia" exhibition - the academic lecture of 'Tingtao Pulpit', the on-site tour of 'Artists and Your Peers', the 'Voice of Art - Artist Endorsement Card', "@Wuhan 2021 Face', several activities accompanied the exhibition, and have received active participation and praise from a large number of audiences. Among them, the '@Wuhan 2021 Faces' activity, because of its long duration and high participation, has received attention and affirmation from the public. So far, nearly 2,000 spectators have participated in the event.
In a sense, art requires experience in addition to appreciation. For the artist, self-portrait is a self-complaint of life, an expression of emotion, and an unintentional monologue of the heart. For most viewers, it was the first time they had experienced a portrait of themselves or their family and friends. The museum hopes that through this activity, the audience will experience an emotional expression through art and through the heart under the influence of the artist, and hope that everyone will get a different sense of life in the process. Enjoy art, taste life - from the 'faces' of many audiences, we read happiness, taste joy, but also sadness and wandering... And these are artistic reproductions of real life emotions, and they are also inner confessions in the special context of the art museum! ”
