False praise, it is estimated that Hojoji himself does not think so, the development of Japanese manga is quite long, very early on there were two types of representatives, one is Osamu Tezuka, which is suitable for children to see, very cartoon style. The first category is called drama painting, which is relatively more bloody violence, and is specially for adults to see. In the beginning, Japan did not target manga only for teenagers and children. One of the characteristics of drama painting is that the painting style is very realistic, and Hong Kong comics are influenced by Japanese drama painting. Later, the business of renting a bookstore was not good, and slowly the two styles merged into today's Japanese manga, and even Osamu Tezuka stopped targeting children in his subsequent works and thought deeper to act.
Hojoji is active in the manga world in the 80s, Virgo "Three Sisters of Cat's Eye" to see the early chapters, the painting is not particularly realistic and particularly good, but in the slow transformation, by the time the "City Hunter" serial Hojoji's painting style has become very mature. However, compared with those predecessors who specially pursued details in drama painting, it cannot be said that the painters were the best. In the 1980s, the entire comic industry also reached a mature and prosperous point, and the industry had clear requirements for the speed of renewal of cartoonists. Hojo's characters are always spat upon, but the details can be seen from hair to leather jacket folds. As a result, Hojoji's time to draw was longer, and he had to hire more assistants to complete the same weekly speed as other manga artists, which was actually undesirable. Hojoji also listened to the editor's opinion and made many changes, requiring its lines to be bright, so that readers can look at it conveniently and draw with relatively little effort.
The biggest influence on Hojoji is his assistant Yuhiko Inoue, so we see Yuhiko Inoue's "Slam Dunk Master" is also a particularly delicate character painting. Then to the "Wandering Walk" painted by Yuhiko Inoue later, for the layman, I can only say wow, so powerful. Don't think about it, you must have been painting for a long time to paint like this, or that sentence, speed and painting fineness can not be combined.
Other cartoonists are not necessarily unable to do it, and the more frequently the series is urged, the more detailed portrayal must be abandoned. There are a lot of illustrators in Japan, and the characters they draw are very powerful, but they are not cartoonists, and they may take several days to draw a picture.
Hojoji and Inoue after they went to draw manga this way and no one tried it, you can definitely propose who draws particularly well, in fact, it may just be that the characters are particularly beautiful, and the details are definitely not in place in the original Hojoji. The whole market is going this way, and less and less attention is paid to the painter, but the fun of the story is put first. Hojoji was influenced by his predecessors in that era and wanted to make an attempt, which was not successful in the Japanese manga market, and it took more energy and manpower, and it was not necessarily better than other peers who were concise and brisk, especially the many divine works that were serialized in the same period, the most famous of which was Akira Toriyama's "Dragon Ball".
