In 1984, a man in Guang'an, Sichuan Province, stumbled upon a newspaper and found a search notice that had been on the Korean battlefield and had missing a cut of his right index finger, very similar to his father's description.
So he hurried to find his father, who saw the newspaper and left for his old unit. At this time, the veteran learned that Deng Xiaoping, Qin Jiwei, Kim Il Sung and many other big figures were looking for him, and the old man's name was Chai Yunzhen.
Chai Yunzhen, born in 1926, was born in Yuechi County, Sichuan. In 1947, the 22-year-old Chai Yunzhen was arrested by the Kuomintang, but his luck was not bad enough, and he was captured by our army. After being captured, Chai Yunzhen resolutely joined our army to fight against the Nationalist army after ideological education, and then participated in the Battle of Crossing the River, and also won the second class merit once in this battle.
After the end of the War of Liberation, the War to Resist US Aggression and Aid Korea was immediately launched, and Chai Yunzhen first fought bandits in Yunguichuan for a period of time, and then was immediately transferred to Korea to participate in the War to Resist US Aggression and Aid Korea. In May 1951, the Park Dafeng Blockade Battle was held, and this battle completely changed Chai Yunzhen's life.
The cause of this battle was a strategic transfer of our army, peng Dehuai ordered Qin Jiwei, commander of the 15th Army, and his troops to block the attack at Park Dafeng and delay the enemy's footsteps. So Qin Jiwei sent a battalion here and asked the soldiers to be sure to hold here.
In the battle of Park Dafeng, between the enemy's strong firepower and air superiority, Chai Yunzhen's class was all killed, and he was the only one who survived. So Chai Yunzhen alone undertook the task of holding on to three hills, relying on machine guns and grenades to confront the enemy. In the confrontation, Chai Yunzhen single-handedly killed more than two hundred enemies and blew up one of the enemy's front-line headquarters, dealing a serious blow to the enemy.
In the late stage of the blockade battle, the enemy finally sensed that the fire of chai Yunzhen's three hills was wrong, and then sent four scouts to investigate the situation. After Chai Yunzhen saw the four people on the other side, he picked up the machine gun and began to shoot. And the enemy also began to charge. Chai Yunzhen swept three dead with a machine gun, but the last enemy rushed to Chai Yunzhen.
In the face of this enemy, Chai Yunzhen began to fight with the enemy to the death, and he was bitten off a right index finger by the enemy, but the enemy was successfully killed by Chai Yunzhen. After the hand-to-hand combat, Chai Yunzhen passed out, and when his comrades found him, he had been lying on the position for a long time, so his comrades rushed him to the hospital.
However, Chai Yunzhen spent 32 years with his troops in the hospital. After waking up from the hospital, Chai Yunzhen lay in the hospital for a year, and then he could not find his troops, plus the Korean War was over, so Chai Yunzhen issued a third-class B disabled soldier certificate and returned to his hometown to farm, which was 32 years.
During this period, Chai Yunzhen was rated as a special combat hero, and Park Dafeng's first battle of resistance also earned him a first-class merit. However, because of the backward traffic in Sichuan and the blockage of information, Chai Yunzhen never knew these things, plus he did not like to talk about the past, so the people around him did not know that he was a big hero.
The North Korean side erected a monument to Chai Yunzhen and also erected a "portrait" of Chai Yunzhen at the North Korean Military Museum. In 1980, when North Korean leader Kim Il Sung came to Beijing to talk about Chai Yun-jin by chance, Deng Xiaoping, after learning about the situation, ordered that the whereabouts of this "sacrificed" combat hero must be found. So Qin Jiwei, commander of the 15th Army, specially sent people to set up an investigation team, and it was not until 1984 that a newspaper looking for Chai Yunzhen was seen by himself.
