Honghe Town is a well-known "honey pear town" in the country, at present, the town's honey pear planting area has reached 7559 acres. Li Feng, who first started growing pears in 1993, is a complete novice in the fruit industry. At that time, his brother just contracted 55 acres of Honghetai stone five-point field to plant honey pears, so he followed his brother to learn to grow honey pears. Due to his diligence and studiousness, by 1995, Li Feng was able to independently manage the pears in the Taishi Five-Point Field.
"Taishi Wufenchang mainly planted Varieties such as Japanese Kikusui Pear and Huanghuali, because the planting area of Huanghuali in the town was relatively large and the yield was high, so the price was not very good." Li Feng said that in 1998, the market price of huanghuali was only 2 mao/jin, and in 1999, it was only 5 mao/jin, so he started the idea of planting other honey pear varieties.
In 1999, Li Feng learned from the staff of the Agricultural Machinery Station in Honghe Town that the Hangzhou Fruit Research Institute had cultivated two new varieties of pears, Cuiguan and Emerald Green, with high sweetness, good taste and high sales price. Therefore, he introduced cuiguan and emerald green honey pear saplings through the Honghe Town Agricultural Machinery Station, and contracted 93 acres of land in Taishiqiao Village to plant new varieties of honey pears in one go, and he also became the first batch of farmers in the town to introduce new varieties of honey pears in a large area. "By 2004, the jade crown and emerald green honey pear began to bear fruit, and the market price was 8 cents and 5 / catty, and the yellow pear was 6 cents / catty at that time." Li Feng said that the introduction of new varieties has given him a taste of the sweetness of variety improvement. So in 2005, Li Feng contracted another 27 acres of land to further expand the planting area.
The aroma of wine is also afraid of the deep alley. After having a good variety, Li Feng began to think about how to expand sales. "When people talk about apples, they think of red Fuji, and when they talk about cantaloupe, they think of Xinjiang." Li Feng said that the branding strategy is the most important means to expand sales channels. Therefore, in 2003, he and other fruit farmers in the town cooperated to establish a professional fruit cooperative, formulated pear production standards and production operating procedures, and officially registered the "Border Bridge" pear trademark.
The honey pears planted by Honghe Fruit Professional Cooperative have successively obtained certifications such as "Pollution-free Origin and Pollution-free Agricultural Products in Zhejiang Province", "China Green Food", "Zhejiang Famous Brand Agricultural Products", "Jiaxing Famous Brand Products" and "Jiaxing Famous Trademarks", which further launched the brand influence of "National Border Bridge". At the end of 2020, Honghe honey pear was officially approved by the State Intellectual Property Office as a national "geographical indication certification trademark".
Technology is the primary productive force. Pear cultivation is a technical job, which requires disinfection and artificial pollination in the spring, disease prevention and insect prevention in the summer, and pruning in the winter. "After the new varieties were introduced on the farm, I invited experts from the Hangzhou Fruit Tree Research Institute to guide us for 3 years." Li Feng said that after mastering the planting technology of new varieties, he has introduced new planting technology many times, especially the high-level flower bud grafting technology introduced in 2017 has achieved great success. "Grafted in October every year, it can flower and bear fruit the following year, with 5 to 6 fruits hanging from each branch, so that the yield can remain stable regardless of the size of the year." Li Feng said.
"Our Honghe pears are tender, juicy and sweet, refreshing and fragrant, and rich in nutrition, which attracted large fruit business enterprises to purchase this year." Li Feng said that the other party's purchase price is 40% higher than the market price, but it also puts forward higher requirements for the quality control of pears, such as no surface damage, sweetness should exceed certain standards, and there can be no rotten heart. In this regard, with the active participation of the Honghe Fruit Professional Cooperative in fundraising, Honghe Town introduced the province's first computerized automatic assembly line fruit sorting machine. "The honey pears selected by the fruit selector fully meet the requirements of the other party, and the price is also guaranteed." Li Feng said.
"One person is not rich, but everyone is really rich." Li Feng told reporters that since the establishment of the Honghe Fruit Professional Cooperative, not only vigorously promote new varieties such as Cuiguan, but also organize training classes every year to teach fruit tree management techniques to the fruit farmers in the town, and now driven by the cooperative, the planting area of Cuiguan honey pear in Honghe Town has reached more than 5,000 mu, and the computer automatic assembly line fruit sorting machine is also open to the fruit farmers in the town, and the honey pear has become the "golden key" for the fruit farmers in Honghe Town to open the door of common prosperity.
