In the calligraphy circle, there has always been a saying that "people are afraid of old age", which means that calligraphy has reached a certain level, the calligrapher has matured with the growth of social experience, and his calligraphy art has gained enough experience with the calligrapher's persistent pursuit of art and reached the realm of pure fire.
The term "people are afraid of the old" first appeared in the Tang Dynasty Sun Guoting's "Book Genealogy": If you think about it, it is better to be young than to be old; to learn the rules, it is better to be old than to be young... At first, it is not enough, but in the middle, it is passed, and then it is a general meeting, and when the general meeting is held, people are afraid of old age.
In the history of calligraphy, the representative of "people's books are afraid of the old" is the Ming Dynasty's generation of grandmaster Wen Zhengming, who still wrote at the age of 90, and wrote in the fly-headed xiaokai without any ambiguity.
Wen Zhengming (1470-1559), known as Hengshan Resident, was known as "Wenheng Mountain". Nanzhi is a famous painter, calligrapher, writer and connoisseur of the Ming Dynasty. He co-founded the "Wu School" with Shen Zhou; in painting, he and Shen Zhou, Tang Yin, and Qiu Ying were collectively called the "Four Families of Ming"; in literature, Wen Zhengming was called the "Four Talents of Wuzhong" (the Four Talents of Jiangnan) together with Zhu Yunming, Tang Bohu, and Xu Zhenqing.

We can see here that Wen Zhengming can be described as poetry, literature, books, and paintings, and is a standard "four talents". Speaking of this, everyone must think that Wen Zhengming must be a genius, how high a talent must this be to have such achievements?
In fact, Wen Zhengming is not a gifted person, his talent is even inferior to that of ordinary people, and all he can do to become a generation of masters lies entirely in his creation the day after tomorrow.
Wen Zhengming has been stupid since childhood, to what extent is he stupid? 6 years old can not walk, 8 years old can not speak, once suspected of being an idiot, to 11 years old can barely open their mouths, if it is put now, 11-year-old children are graduated from primary school, anyone looks, will not look at this child.
But here's the saying: Others can look down on you, but you can't look down on yourself.
Although Wen Zhengming opened his tricks later, Wen Zhengming's father was very optimistic about his son, thinking that he was a late bloomer and would have something to do in the future, Wen Zhengming's father poured some chicken soup for his son from time to time, and Wen Zhengming was also full of confidence in himself.
Wen Zhengming took the township examination at the age of 19, because his writing was too poor, he was placed as a third class by the examiner, and failed to pass the examination, since then, Wen Zhengming began to drill calligraphy, deliberately studying, day after day, year after year to practice calligraphy.
Wen Zhengming calligraphy first learned the calligrapher Li Yingzhen of the dynasty, and then the patriarchal Zhao Mengfu, Wen's best font is Xiao Kai and Xing cursive, the biggest feature of its calligraphy, that is, according to the characteristics of Tang Dynasty calligraphy, the Wei Jin and Tang Kai were organically integrated, forming their own artistic style.
Wen Zhengming's representative works are many, such as "Preface to the Tengwang Pavilion", "The Tale of Du Paradise", "Getaway", "Tongshan Map" and so on.
Among them, the book "Du Paradise" was written at the age of 89 by Wen Zhengming, this work can be called the realm of "people and books are old" mentioned above, this role is skillful and condensed, beautiful and elegant, washing away the lead, going to the guijiao of the youth, the calligraphy is at its peak, and it is known as "the first line of the Ming Dynasty".
Unfortunately, Wen Zhengming's masterpiece "The Tale of Duyuan" is now in the United States, hidden in the Cleveland Museum of Art in the United States, and today we have made a 1:1 high-definition copy of the original volume of the work through many efforts, restoring its ink style and sending it to calligraphy lovers.
