Rich Brian, a mixed-Race Chinese-Indian rapper, became famous in Vine and then developed into an international superstar, and not long ago officially released his second new album "The Sailor", and the new album singles "Yellow" and "Kids" are quite popular.
But it's all thanks to the rapid rise of 88rising, which brings together higher brothers, rich brians, and joji, niki, and others.
The establishment of 88rising
The popularity of 88rising from the underground to the Internet seems to have just begun.
"We are very united and want to prove that everyone can do anything," says Sean Miyashiro, CEO of 88rising. He founded 88rising with Jaeson Ma. Originally known as cxshxnly, it was a music production and management company. The first artists to sign included rapper Okasian, electronic artist Josh Pan, and dumbfoundead, who was active in battele. Even Brian Puspos, choreographer of Justin Bibber, was among them.
Signed up with Keith Ape
However, the real popularity of 88rising came in 2015, when the popular Korean rapper Keith Ape released the single "It G Ma", which has since been played more than 67 million times. However, the so-called tree trick, "It G Ma" was accused of plagiarizing Maco's "u guessed it". Fortunately, this matter was finally resolved smoothly. Even Maco himself admits that It G Ma is a more popular work. Dumbfoundead told Sean Miyashiro about the incident, and the signing of Keith Ape also happened later.
Keith Ape then released a remix version of It G Ma, which was another mess of fire. Feat lineup dumbfoundead, a$ap ferg, waka flocka flame, father, can be called luxurious. Of course, the success of Keith Ape helped 88rising make more money.
The emergence of rich brian
But the development of 88rising is inseparable from another person, Brian Imanuel. Back in 2016, before being called Rich Brian, he was a 16-year-old vine influencer from Jakarta, Indonesia. He uploaded a video of himself wearing a pink polo and a fanny pack under the name rich chigga. Yes, Dat $tick is simply murderous!
Again dumbfoundead, he began lobbying sean miyashiro, and 88rising also signed brian imanuel. Then the exposure grew, and people realized that chigga was a combination of two words, "chinese" and a discriminatory word, and people would not be very tolerant of it. Brian Imanuel learned English through YouTube, and long after the song was released, he also realized the meaning. He then promised not to use the word again and simply changed the name.
But brian imanuel was not malicious at the time, and wanted to use his own efforts to strip away the malice behind the word, but later realized that he could not change it, so it was natural to change the name.
The success of "Dat $tick"
A video containing 21 savages, tony lanez, was highly praised for "Dat $tick," and Rich Brian became even more popular. There are also feats of ghostface killah and others, and everything is on the track of high-speed development. Without waiting long, Rich Brian and 88rising created more hit singles, "Who That Be" and "Glow Like Dat."
Rich Brian is now even the hope of Asian rap. Rich Brian later co-launched Crisis with 21 Savage and Gosepel with Keith Ape and xxxtentaction.
Rich Brian's debut album Amen
In 2018, Rich Brian took his debut album Amen as the first Asian rapper to reach number one on the iTunes hip-hop charts. But like everything, it doesn't always go well, and the U.S. market doesn't change with a single album. During the subsequent North American tour, 88rising released the collaborative album "Head in the Clouds", and held a label music festival in Los Angeles in the same year.
Rich Brian's second album The Sailor
Apparently, the second new album, The Sailor, is more mature, including collaborations with Joji, the Rza, and artist and producer Bekon. The single "Yellow" was already a success, and the song describes the process of coming to the United States at the age of 17 and gradually proving himself.
"I've never really talked about it before, but now it feels like the time is right and I'm thinking about making more of what I love." I've always liked more melodies, but I'm afraid to do it. Rich Brian said.
Rich Brian also compared to fellow immigrants 21 savages. Talked about the latter who was once arrested by the USCIS and no longer wears jewelry. The second single, "Kids", is entirely a boom bap way, reminiscing about his birth and home country. He even sang "Kids" for indonesia's president. A grateful Rich Brian thanks Sean and 88rising in the song.
Rich Brian started out with funny videos to gain attention, and now his lyrics are inspiring young Asians and immigrants to realize their dreams.
"If I hadn't signed with 88rising, it might have turned out to be completely different, I would still have done my best and had the dream, but there were a lot of people around me who had the same dreams and I was on the right track myself," says Rich Brian.
