In the 10th year of the Hokusai calendar (1760), Katsushika Hokusai was born in an ordinary house cut off from the main office of Katsushika Prefecture in Edo, surnamed Kawamura, and his young name was Tokitaro, which was later renamed Tetsuzo. His adoptive father was Nakajima Ise, the shogunate's imperial mirror miller. However, Nakajima Ise ordered his parents to inherit the family business, and Katsushika Hokusai left and returned to his original family.

In the seventh year of Ernst (1778), Katsushika Hokusai studied under Katsukawa Harujo and worked for 15 years at katsukawa Studio in Edo. During this period, he also learned the Tang painting and Western painting methods of the Hunting School, laying a deep foundation for his future creations. Transferred the name "Zongli" and changed his name to "Katsushika Hokusai"
In the tenth year of the reign (1798), Katsushika Hokusai ceded the title of "Zongli" to the protégé Rin Rin tseiji and changed his name to "Hokusai Tatsumasa". In the second year of culture (1805), it was renamed "Katsushika Hokusai". At this time, Hokusai's depictions gradually shifted from genre paintings and beauty paintings to landscape paintings. Hokusai combined the creative experience of previous masters with Western painting techniques to open up a new situation for the creation of ukiyo-e landscape paintings.
Renamed "Dai Dou" and published Hokusai Manga
In the seventh year of culture (1810), Katsushika Hokusai began to use the painting number "Dai Dou". In the years that followed, in Edo, he published a number of model books to guide painting, such as The Early Guide to Sketching (1812), which were used to guide his disciples in learning to draw. Hokusai then traveled to Kansai (Osaka, Kishu, Ise, etc.). In the eleventh year of culture (1814), Katsushika Hokusai's Hokusai Manga was first published.
Creation of Dharma bust, renamed "For One"
On October 5, 1814, in the 14th year of culture , Katsushika Hokusai created a bust of 120 Daidama in Nagoya Nishikyōsho (Nishi Hongan-ji Temple) in the territory. At the end of the year, Katsushika Hokusai traveled to Osaka, Ise, Kishu, Yoshino, and other places. In the third year of Bunshō (1820), Katsushika Hokusai gave the painting number of "Dai Dou" to the doorman Dou Lou Beiquan and changed his name to "As One".
Created "Thirty-Six Views of Fuyue", renamed "Painting The Old Man"
In the last year of Bunsei (1833), Katsushika Hokusai created a masterpiece that won him worldwide honors: "Thirty-six Views of Fugaku", a total of 46 pieces. "Thirty-Six Views of Fugaku" is the result of Hokusai's painstaking observation of Mt. Fuji in different parts of the Kanto region. Regarding these exquisite works by Hokusai, the famous art historian Mitsuhe Akiyama said: "These works once again show all the previous achievements of Japanese painting. In the fifth year of Tenbo (1834), Katsushika Hokusai gave up the "for one" picture number, which had ushered in his great success, and instead used the "painting crazy old man". From then on, Hokusai's wood-paneled nishiki paintings gradually decreased, replaced by a large number of "meat strokes" ("meat strokes" are hand-painted colored drawings directly on paper or on silk). During this period, Hokusai created "Hundred Views of Fugaku".
《Kanagawa Chunamiri》
Kanagawa Surf Is a famous woodblock print by The Japanese ukiyo-e painter Katsushika Hokusai, published in 1832 as part of the Thirty-Six Views of Fugaku series. The painting is very small, 25.7 cm high and 37.9 cm wide, taking A4 paper as an example, it is slightly larger than A4 paper. It depicts ships that threaten Kanagawa Oki (the sea off Kanagawa) with giant waves in the background of Mt. Fuji. The image of the boatmen struggling to survive is depicted in the distance of Mt. Fuji. The seemingly simple composition contains geometric principles, and the combination of triangles and circles was a pioneering form of composition at that time. In the thirteenth year of Tenbo (1842), due to political turmoil in Japan, Edo began to become less and less peaceful. So Katsushika Hokusai went to visit Takai Hiroyama's mansion in Takai County, Shinano Province. In the fifteenth year of Tenpo (1844), Katsushika Hokusai created the "Nu Tao Tu" on a tour of Kofushi Town. In fact, by this time Hokusai's light and glory had already been regained by the young Utagawa Hiroshi. Hokusai lost its changing style of painting and gradually lost its market. Despite this, hokusai in his old age stubbornly insisted on creating. At this time, Hokusai also said like a child: "If you give me another ten years of life, I will become a real painter." ”
Died in Asakusa
In January of the second year of Kayonaga (1849), Katsushika Hokusai was ill and created his last work, Fuji-Etsuryu. The picture has a distinct "Hokusai style" of Mt. Fuji, and the same exquisite brushwork as always. Three months later, Hokusai died at the age of 90 in the Asakusa Sacred Heavenly Town. In 2000, the American magazine Life listed Katsushika Hokusai as one of the "100 World Millennial Celebrities", praising his spirit of striving for progress all his life and finding ways to make his paintings more perfect. Katsushika Hokusai is also the only Japanese to be selected as one of the "100 Celebrities Who Influenced the World in the Millennium.".
Katsushika Hokusai's prints were magically realist to the extreme in the 19th century.
