Fuzhou is a good place, not only because of her name Xixing, but also because of her people's brilliant spirit. According to incomplete statistics, since the Southern and Northern Dynasties, there have been 416 Fuzhou officials at or above the deputy ministerial level. Among these great figures, two are particularly striking because of their strange surnames, they come from a family, their father is a navy elder, who was the prime minister of the Beiyang government, named Sa Zhenbing; the son is a railway expert, who was the deputy director of transportation of the National Government, named Sa Fujun.
Sa Fujun (1886~1955), Zi Shaoming, Fujian Minhou people, railway engineering expert. He graduated from Purdue University in 1910 with a bachelor's degree in engineering. After returning to China, he successively served as an engineer of the Guangdong-Han and Sichuan-Han Railways, the chief engineer of the Yunnan Gebishi Railway (Jilin Section), the director of the Public Works Department of the Jiaoji Railway Bureau, the counselor of the Ministry of Railways of the National Government (1929.7.20~1930.2.10), the director of the Department of Public Works of the Ministry of Railways (1929.12.16~1938), the director of the Guangdong-Han Railway Administration, the director of the Yunnan-Burma and Xukun Railway Engineering Bureau, the director of the Jiaoji Railway Administration, Director general of the Highway Administration Department of the Ministry of Communications (1938 ~1939.9.20, 1946.2.8~1949), Technical Supervisor of the Ministry of Communications, Executive Secretary of the Ministry of Communications (1949.1.29) and other positions. After the founding of the People's Republic of China, he served as deputy director of the Ministry of Communications of the Southwest Military and Political Commission and deputy director of the Southwest Railway Engineering Bureau, director of the Counselor's Office of the Ministry of Railways of the Central People's Government (1952), and deputy to the First National People's Congress.

At the beginning of the 20th century, when Yunnan did not have a decent long-mile highway, there were two railways in southern Yunnan: one was the Yunnan-Vietnam Railway (meter rail) built by the French, and the other was the Bishi Railway (inch rail) built by Chinese himself.
The Bishi Railway was built in three sections, the Bibi (Gejiu ~ Bisezhai) section, which began construction in 1915 and opened to traffic in 1921, the road construction engineer was Nifu Lishi (French); the Jilin (Jijie ~ Lin'an [1]) section, which began construction in 1918 and opened to traffic in 1928, the road construction engineer was Sa Fujun; the Linping (Lin'an ~ Shiping) section, which began construction in 1929 and opened to traffic in 1936, the road construction engineers were Wu Chengyuan and Li Qingyu. So far, the total length of 177 kilometers, the gauge of 60 centimeters, the construction of 21 years of Bishi railway throughout the line.
The bishi railway uses a 6-inch [2] (60 cm) gauge, which was suggested by Nifu Lis, based on a comprehensive consideration of factors such as right of way, geography, cost and transportation.
Soon after the Gebi section of the railway was put into operation, the drawbacks of its narrow gauge were revealed, such as slow speed and small transportation capacity. In the face of this new situation, Safu, the director of the Jilin section of the project, made a suggestion that the line rail should be laid according to 6 square inches of gauge, but the roadbed, bridge, tunnel, etc. are designed according to the meter gauge standard in preparation for the future needs of the Yunnan-Vietnam Railway. After that, the chicken pro and the pro screen section were all built according to the intention of Safu Jun.
In 1970, the Ministry of Railways expanded the inch-gauge railway from Jijie to Shiping, and in that year it was expanded to meter gauge and connected with the Yunnan-Vietnam Railway. The old section of Chicken Street to The Old Section was not transformed due to congenital deficiencies, and finally stopped operation in 1990. This fact also fully verifies the foresight of Safjun, whose proposals were not only comprehensive and scientific, but also reserved enough space for the future development of the Bishi Railway.
The Bishi Railway has created a number of the best railways in China, namely: a private railway with the smallest track equipment (narrow tracks and small cars), the longest construction time (lasted 21 years), and the best operating efficiency.
Tiger father has no dog
Speaking of Safujun, it is impossible not to mention the Sa family and his father Sa Zhenbing.
The Sa family of Which Safukjun belonged, whose ancestors lived in Yanmen (present-day County) in Shanxi, were the ancestors of the Yanmen Sa clan, and the famous General Sala Buha of the Yuan Dynasty and the poet Sadula (grandson of Sara Buha) were the ancestors of the Yanmen Sa clan. Regarding the ethnic attributes of the ancestors of the Sa clan, it is customary to classify them as Mongols, which should strictly speak be a mixture of Theo people of the Western Regions, the Mongols and the Han Chinese. The surname "Sa" was given to Sadula by Emperor Yingzong of Yuan, and after Sadhu received the surname, he took the Chinese name Tianci and the number Zhizhai (直斋), and the Sa family named it "Sa". The three Satula brothers, his brother Sa Tian and his son Sa Zhongli (Zi Shouren), in the first year of the Yuan Dynasty (1333), were appointed as the inspectors of The Zhongshu Province of Fujian Province, and after entering Fujian as an official, settled down in Fuzhou and became the ancestor of the Yanmen Sa clan. By the Qing Dynasty, the Sa family had become one of the Wang clans in Fuzhou.
Xu Shiying, a modern celebrity, once wrote a preface to the "Genealogy of the Yanmen Sa Clan" and wrote a poem praising: "The majestic famous lord Yanmen is high, and Yiye is beautiful and handsome." Remember that I preached the Wang clan, and I fell in love with the stars. ”
Since ancient times, the Sa family of Minhou has been known by the Min people as the home of "Ren Yu Hu Zhu" because of its talents and elite gatherings. Especially in the past century or so, in the generations of sa clan people (the 16th to 19th generations of Min), there have been many famous naval generals and scientific and technological masters. For example, Sa Zhenbing (16th), Sa Fumao (17th, graduated from Tianjin Water Teacher School, served as the general office of the Daoqing Railway, president of the Bank of China), Sa Shijun (18th, Sa Zhenbing's nephew, captain of the Navy Zhongshan), Saben Dong (18th, Sa Zhenbing's nephew, physicist, Dr. Liumei, professor of Tsinghua University, president of Xiamen University), Saben Tie (18th, chemist, brother of Saben Dong, Dr. Liumei, professor of Tsinghua University), Sa Shixuan (18th, computer expert, Chinese Professor of Minmin University), SaZhitang (19th, microelectronics scientist, son of Saben Dong, Ph.D. of Stanford University, foreign academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences. ), Sazhihan (19th, mathematician, son of Sabendon, Ph.D., Princeton University) and others. The most famous of these is, of course, Sa Fujun's father, Admiral Sa Zhenbing.
Sa Zhenbing (1859~1952), character Dingming, Mongolian, Fujian Minhou people. In 1869, he was admitted to the second driving class of Fuzhou Mawei Ship Politics School, and after graduation, he was apprenticed to the Fujian marine division "Yangwu" and other ships, and in the 3rd year of Guangxu (1877), he was sent to the Royal Naval College in Greenwich, England to study, and was in the same window as Yan Fu and Liu Butou, and returned to China in 1880. In the late Qing Dynasty, he successively served as a teacher at the Tianjin Admiralty School, a beiyang admiral and battleship pipe belt, a general officer of the Wusong Fortress, adjutant of the Guangdong Naval Division, a minister of naval preparation, and a naval commander; during the Republic of China period, he successively served as the principal of the Wusong Merchant Marine School, the general office of the Shanghai Jiangnan Weaving Bureau, the interim commander-in-chief of the Navy, the chief of the Navy Department of the Beiyang Government (1917.6.24~7.5, 1919.12.3~1921.5.14), the acting premier (1920.5.14~8.9), Governor of Fujian Province (1922.10.15~1926.12.4) and other positions; after the founding of New China, Sa Zhenbing served as a member of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, a member of the Central Military Commission, and a member of the Overseas Chinese Committee. On April 14, 1952, Sa Zhenbing died of illness in Fuzhou at the age of 94.
On September 11, 1895, Sa Zhenbing's wife, Sa Fujun's birth mother Chen Shi, died of illness, and at the age of 36, Sa Zhenbing fostered his daughter Sa Shuduan and son Sa Fu in his father-in-law's family, and never remarried again, living in widowhood for life. Throughout his life, Sa Zhenbing was honest and honest, bright and upright, had a clean reputation as an official, had a prestige at home, was revered as a "general" in the military, and was respected by the people as "Sabasa". The famous writer Bingxin's father, Xie Baozhang (Sa Zhenbing student and deputy director of the Beiyang government's naval department), once said: "The model soldier of the Chinese Navy, Sa Zhenbing is only one person." ”
The descendants of Sappho and his beloved wife Shang Ziyu are also very good, the son Saben is far from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, the grandson Sazhimao and Sazhiping are both from Harvard, and the great-granddaughter Sabari graduated from New York University.
Famous teachers out of high disciples
In August 1931, the Chinese Society of Engineers[3] and the Chinese Engineering Society[4] were formally merged with the Chinese Society of Engineers, whose purpose was to "contact comrades in the engineering community, cooperate in the development of Chinese engineering undertakings, and study and promote various engineering academics", and Sappho served as the vice president and president of the society successively. The successive presidents of the Chinese Society of Engineers also include Wei Yidi, Yan Deqing, Xu Peihuang, Zeng Yangfu, Chen Lifu, Ling Hongxun, Weng Wenhao, mao Yisheng, and the successive vice presidents are Hu Shuhua, Zhi Bingyuan, Huang Boqiao, Yun Zhen, Shen Yi, Mao Yisheng, Hu Boyuan, Du Zhenyuan, Hou Jiayuan, Li Ximou, Gu Yuxuan, and Xu Enzeng. From this string of thunderous personal names, it can also be seen that Safjun was in the engineering and technical community at that time.
As a senior in the engineering industry, Sapphojun, whether he is an official in the Ministry of Railways or a director in the Engineering Bureau, he attaches great importance to the cultivation of young juniors. Wang Juqian is a best example, because of the weight and support of the elderly Sappho who received the wisdom of pearls, Wang Juqian, a high-caliber student of Tangshan Jiaotong University who returned from the United States, grew from an ordinary railway engineer to a famous railway expert in China. After liberation, Wang Juqian successively served as deputy director of the General Bureau of Engineering of the Ministry of Railways (1950), deputy director of the Science and Technology Committee of the Ministry of Railways (1958), and vice minister of the Ministry of Railways (1959), making outstanding contributions to the railway industry in New China, especially the construction of new lines. Unfortunately, as the master of the division, Sa Fujun did not appreciate the proud achievements of his disciple Wang Juqian, so he drove to the west of hexi.
On June 7, 1950, the Southwest Railway Engineering Bureau was established, and Safu, then deputy director of the Transportation Department of the Southwest Military and Political Committee, concurrently served as the deputy director of the bureau, and on June 15, the Construction of the Chengdu-Chongqing Railway was started, completed on June 13, 1952, and on July 1, 1953, the Chengdu-Chongqing Railway was officially put into operation. As the administrative leader and technical director of the Southwest Railway Engineering Bureau, Sappho, who is more than a year old, has worked day and night to devote a lot of effort to the survey, design and construction of the Chengdu-Chongqing Railway. Sappho was honored to be able to personally participate in the construction of the first railway in New China, saying: "38 years ago I participated in the survey work of the Chengdu-Chongqing Railway (then known as Chuanhan Road), but only today I dare to say that it will be able to be built, and it must be very well repaired. ”
Since returning from his stay in the United States, Mr. Safujun has been working in the railway department, from the late Qing Dynasty, the Republic of China to the new China, from engineers, bureau chiefs, deputy directors to directors of the counselor's office, he has made outstanding contributions to the construction and management of China's railways. On February 7, 1955, Safujun, a railway engineering expert who had come out of the admiral's house, died in Beijing at the age of 70.
