His entourage heard that Wang Laoji of the Thirteen Elements had a cure for the summer, and asked for medicine for Lin Zexu, and after Lin Zexu took a packet of herbs, such symptoms were cured. Lin Zexu went to the door to thank Wang Laoji, and asked Wang Laoji what kind of medicine to treat the disease, when he learned that Wang Laoji was only treated with cheap herbs, Lin Zexu had a feeling and proposed that Wang Laoji make herbal tea with the prescription, so that people could drink it with them, prevent diseases and take care of health. After that, Wang Laoji sold herbal tea as Lin Zexu said. In order to encourage Wang Laoji, Lin Zexu specially sent a large copper gourd pot carved with the three golden characters of "Wang Laoji". Since then, Wang Laoji's herbal tea has been popular in the Pearl River Delta, until now.

The Xianfeng Emperor gave him a sacrifice and burial, the courtesy name "Wen Zhong", and the Jin Dynasty crown prince Taifu.
