Government records reviewed by Reuters show that Calhawk, the inspector general of the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, was found guilty of serious misconduct. In one case, however, Hawke himself is under investigation , which concluded in 2019 that the agency consider firing him on charges of "serious misconduct."

Reuters reported that the agency decided in May 2020 to suspend Hawke without pay for an unknown period. Now he's back to serving as an internal watchdog for Wall Street regulators.
The investigation into Hawke was overseen by the Integrity Commission, a federal small government group that reviews allegations of misconduct against the inspector general. Its conclusions have not been reported before.
