On Tuesday, Harvard university established a new institute of nature and artificial intelligence, the Kempner Institute for the Study of Natural and Artificial Intelligence.
The institute was founded on the initiative of Mr. and Mrs. Zuckerberg and donated $500 million.
In the future, this initiative will stand at the intersection of neuroscience and artificial intelligence, seeking the basic principles of human and machine intelligence.
The findings will flow in both directions to enhance understanding of how humans think, perceive the world around them, make decisions, and learn, driving the rapidly evolving field of artificial intelligence.
Mr. and Mrs. Xiaozha donated a total of $500 million
The institute is named after Zuckerberg's mother, Karen Kempner Zuckerberg, and her grandparents, Sidney Kempner.
The Kempner Institute will welcome ten new faculty members in different fields, namely:
Boaz Barak (SEAS, Computer Science);
Francesca Dominici (Harvard Chan School, Biostatistics);
Finale Doshi-Velez (SEAS, Computer Science);
Catherine Dulac (FAS, Molecular and Cell Biology);
Robert Gentleman (HMS, Computational Biomedical/Biomedical Informatics);
Sam Gershman (FAS, Psychology);
Zak Kohane (HMS, Biomedical Informatics);
Susan Murphy (SEAS/FAS, Computer Science/Statistics);
Venki Murthy (FAS, Molecular and Cell Biology);
anda Viégas (SEAS/HBS, Computer Science).
Larry Bacow, the new head of the institute, said, "The Kempner Institute at Harvard University provides a unique opportunity to combine the methods and expertise of biology, cognitive science with machine learning, statistics and computer science to improve how we respond to disease, discover new treatments, and improve our understanding of the human body and the world."
The main reason for the establishment of the institute was to combine these two fields in the hope of creating something that is essentially new.
According to reports, the institute will buy a large number of computers and other infrastructure, but also use cloud computing services.
Xiao Za did charity and first invested in a programming company
This year marks the fifth anniversary of the launch of the Chan-Zuckerberg Action Foundation Science Program. It was first founded in 2015 by Zuckerberg and his wife Priscilla Chan.
At the beginning of the foundation, the Zuckerbergs promised to donate 99% of their Facebook stake in the fund for the rest of their lives.

Andela is a for-profit company founded in 2014 with the goal of training 100,000 developers over the next 10 years.
Previously, the Zuckerbergs invested through several nonprofits and limited liability companies, and such activities will now be clustered under the Chan Zuckerberg Action Fund.
Zuckerberg once said, "In the world we live in, the distribution of talent is balanced, but opportunities are not." Andela's mission is to bridge this gap."

The foundation plays an important role in advancing the global medical and public health sector.
