News commentary "say what" and "how to say", the dean of the School of Journalism of Fudan University said so

Xinmin Evening News (reporter Xu Yisheng) The "Practical Course of News Commentary" written by Mi Bohua, dean of the School of Journalism of Fudan University and former deputy editor-in-chief of the People's Daily, was recently published and distributed by the People's Daily Publishing House. At the "National Book Launch" held last weekend, Mi Bohua shared the responsibilities and professionalism of journalists with journalists and readers.

The author has been engaged in news commentary for nearly thirty years, won the first prize and special prize of the China Journalism Award five times, and is the winner of the 5th Fan Changjiang Journalism Award. Based on its rich professional practical experience, this book makes a systematic theoretical sorting out of news commentary, which not only clarifies the basic concept of news commentary, but also covers important links in the review business, and combines exemplary works to present the laws and techniques of review writing from multiple angles from the perspective and position of party newspaper commentators.

News commentary is complex and arduous ideological labor, in which some laws can be followed and some experience can be learned. The author expounds from the four dimensions of comment elements, stylistic types, basic training, and professional accomplishment, and summarizes the eight key elements of review writing: from the perspective of basic requirements, the position is the fundamental, the commentator is the protagonist, the opinion is the key, and the thinking is the foundation; from the perspective of the writing link, including the topic selection link, the structure link, the expression link and the revision link. The eight elements are the dialectical relationship between Tao and skill, which is not only the basic literacy that commentators should have, but also the fundamental principle of review writing, no matter what kind of commentary is written, it is almost inseparable from these elements.

This book adopts a narrative structure of one section and one case, explaining a method thoroughly, or expounding a truth, cutting from a small angle, and not limited to the case itself, discussing the problem and highlighting the practical; the name is "tutorial", but there is no textbook rigidity; it seems to be a collection of multiple articles, but the articles echo each other. It is both a methodology and a hands-on manual. The book not only has the skills of review writing, but also the method of rational expression of logical thinking, which helps to inspire critical thinking, cultivate correct, fair and rational review literacy, and has many reference value for news review practitioners, teachers and students of media colleges and universities, and review enthusiasts.

Since 2017, Mi Has been the dean of the School of Journalism at Fudan University, transforming into a journalism educator. Mi Bohua said that he has been concerned about politics since he was young, likes political discussion, and has been doing newspaper commentary for more than 40 years. As party newspaper commentators, we should combine the propaganda of the party's propositions with the reflection of the people's voices, meet the needs of readers to the greatest extent, and improve our work according to the needs of readers. Mi Bohua once said that in the final analysis, comments are a contest of views, and only by standing tall can we see far and discuss deeply. The so-called "expression" means that "what to say" is as important as "how to say"; the so-called "thinking" means "not dividing the eight hours or outside of work", and the vividness of the comments comes from the profound learning and the tension of life.

The book "Practical Course of News Commentary" not only clarifies the basic concept of news commentary, but also covers the key links of the commentary business, and presents the laws and techniques of review writing in a three-dimensional panorama; it is both a review writing tutorial and a handwriting note by the editor-in-chief, and what is reflected from one review after another is the process of China's social development.
