2022 movie sequels are released in a bunch, screaming or excited? End the classics

2022 movie sequels are released in a bunch, screaming or excited? End the classics

Many of the popular movie series will soon launch new movie sequels in 2022, with more than 20 sequels coming out next year. 2021 has been a mixed year for movie sequels, with some new series proving the long-awaited disappointment, while others have been impressive. Daniel Craig's role as 007 finally came to an end with the arrival of No Time To Die, and even an old series like Ghostbusters was revived with the reopening of cinemas.

However, for some series of films, it is not enough for global audiences to return to cinema. While superhero series like Spider-Man and Venom have both released new titles in 2020, Tom Cruise's Top Gun 2: Lone Ranger has delayed its release by a year until mid-2022. However, this long-awaited sequel will be a far cry from the only blockbuster sequel release this year.

All in all, there will be more than 20 sequels released in 2022. From the reboot of the classic horror series at the beginning of the year to the major MCU release near the end of 2022. Between these two extremes, however, almost all of the blockbuster movie series will have new productions coming out in the coming months, from the long-dormant Scream series to the Jurassic World trilogy. Therefore, there is a need to dig deeper into each of the film sequels in 2022.

1. Scream 5 January 14, 2022

2022 movie sequels are released in a bunch, screaming or excited? End the classics

The long-awaited Reboot of the Scream series continues to tell the story of the long-running Grimace Killer series. Sidney Prescott, Gale Weathers and Dewey Riley, as well as a new string of teen characters, will return, with few of them likely to survive this horror sequel. It's a horror movie that audiences can expect, and it's a screaming movie with self-conscious satire and wit. However, there are indications that the reboot of Scream 5 will be more serious than 2011's Scream 4.

2. Elf Hostel 4: Transformation Adventure January 14, 2022

2022 movie sequels are released in a bunch, screaming or excited? End the classics

Adam Sandler will no longer participate in Elf Hostel 4: The Transformation Adventure. However, at the helm of animation veteran Derek Drymon, the direction of the series is well mastered. With the fourth return of supporting characters Andy Samberg and Selena Gomez, the story of Dracula swapping bodies with his stupid son-in-law should provide a lot of animated lawlessness even in the absence of Adam Sandler and his famous friend.

3. "Fools Forever" February 4, 2022

2022 movie sequels are released in a bunch, screaming or excited? End the classics

The "Dumb And Dumber Show" series seems unlikely to have a comeback, but Johnny Knoxville, Steve O'rousser and his company will return to the big screen in early 2022. With cameos from machine gun Kelly, creator Taylor and Eric Andre, it could be the most disgusting – and possibly the most interesting – movie of next year. However, troubled former series star Bam Marghera was fired from "Fools Forever" during the production process for his eccentric behavior, meaning the reunion could be more poignant than expected at the time of release.

4. Texas Chainsaw Massacre – February 18, 2022

2022 movie sequels are released in a bunch, screaming or excited? End the classics

Since the release of the original film in 1974, the Texas Chainsaw Killer series has been a thorn in the studio's eye. Countless reboots, reimagines and remakes have sought to regain the lame charm of Salem's location director Tobe Hooper's original book. However, 2022's Texas Chainsaw Killer has a secret weapon in story creator Fede Alvarez, and his brilliant Demon Reborn proves he can take over this most iconic horror series and offer something new and interesting.

5. Downton Abbey 2: A New Era – March 18, 2022

2022 movie sequels are released in a bunch, screaming or excited? End the classics

On the topic of fear of being invaded by outsiders on their isolated mixed families, Downton Abbey 2: The New Age will offer fans of the TV phenomenon another dramatic British soap opera. Despite what happened in 2019's Downton Abbey, the success of the spin-off was enough to prompt a sequel. Little is known about the story, except that it will reunite the main cast, which has been the real draw of the beloved show.

6. Sonic the Hedgehog 2 – April 8, 2022

2022 movie sequels are released in a bunch, screaming or excited? End the classics

As Daniel Craig stopped playing the role of a superspy, the debate over whether Idris Elba should be the next Bond intensified. However, in April 2022, the screen veteran released an equally iconic role, Sonic the Hedgehog 2. With its all-star cast, Sonic the Hedgehog 2 will hopefully recreate the impressive box office success recipe of the original 2020, though it has been criticized. Only time will tell if the sequel succeeds.

7. Fantastic Beasts: The Mystery of Dumbledore – April 15

2022 movie sequels are released in a bunch, screaming or excited? End the classics

The Fantastic Beasts series of films will have to perform their most impressive magic tricks to make viewers forget about the series' connection to Depp and JK Rowling. Four years after the release of the most recent sequel, 2018's Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them: Crimes of Grindelwald, Fantastic Beasts: Dumbledore's Secret has distanced itself from a scandal-battered lead actor, replacing Pirate Captain Jack Sparrow's actor Depp with Madders Mickelson. However, despite recent controversy over the authorship, the sequel will still feature a screenplay co-written by Rowling.

8. Doctor Strange: Crazy Multiverse – May 6, 2022

2022 movie sequels are released in a bunch, screaming or excited? End the classics

Six years have passed since the film debut of Doctor Strange, and Doctor Strange: Crazy Multiverse is finally scheduled to be released in May 2022. In the absence of original director Scott Derrickson, he focused instead on adapting the horror story written by Joe Hill. His successor, however, will delight fans of classic superhero movies. Legendary Sam Raimi, who is at the helm of the superhero sequel, is likely to bring his unique cartoonish, hyper-engrossed action brand to the MCU on this highly anticipated outing.

9. "Legally Beautiful Woman 3" – May 20, 2022

2022 movie sequels are released in a bunch, screaming or excited? End the classics

Although the film is highly anticipated, apart from the Release Date in May 2022, little is known about the comedy sequel, Legally Sonic 3. However, the possibility of co-writing the screenplay with The Office actor Mindy Kaling is that this long-delayed follow-up will be closer to the wildly popular original than to its smaller sequel. While series star Reese Witherspoon is tight-lipped about plot details, Legally Sonic 3 is one of the most mysterious and exciting comedy films of 2022.

10. Rush 4 – May 20, 2022

2022 movie sequels are released in a bunch, screaming or excited? End the classics

Viewers may never get tired of watching Keanu Reeves wipe out countless attackers with a variety of weapons. Luckily, the Rush Movies series offers more of the top R-rated action movies starring genre masters here. While The Matrix 4, which is belated in 2021, may offer a more thoughtful gunfight thrill experience for discerning moviegoers, the delightful Rush 4 should provide a more Reeves-style experience for the actor's ardent fans.

11. Top Gun 2: The Lone Ranger May 27, 2022

2022 movie sequels are released in a bunch, screaming or excited? End the classics

Tom Cruise will eventually play the reckless traitor Pete Mitchell again in Top Gun 2: The Lone Ranger, and due to endless delays, the sequel will be released in May 2022. It's been 36 years since the first film, and it's fair to say that the pilot's life will change a lot since Top Gun. One thing that remains the same, however, is the franchise's love of fast-paced action, and this sequel promises to achieve a lot.

12. Jurassic World 3: Domination – June 10, 2022

2022 movie sequels are released in a bunch, screaming or excited? End the classics

2018's Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom is an unbalanced, messy addition to the series. However, 2015's Jurassic World is undoubtedly a fun, dynamic introductory series reminiscent of Spielberg's original, and the return of director Colin Trevolo means that Jurassic World 3: Domination can end the trilogy. The sequel has a lot of plots to end, but the return of Sam Neal and Laura Dunn bodes well for the series in this regard.

13. Minions 2: The Rise of Gru – July 1, 2022

2022 movie sequels are released in a bunch, screaming or excited? End the classics

Seven years have passed since 2015's Minions managed to turn their former partner into a blockbuster hero in his own right. However, time hasn't diminished the perennial appeal of the comical followers of the lighting animation, nor has it diminished their fondness for Gru, the leader voiced by Steve Karel. As a result, fans of the hugely successful series can look forward to Minions 2: The Rise of Gru, which breaks various box office records after its release in early July 2022. The sequel is expected to eventually explain how Gru and gru work together in name only.

14. Thor 4: Love and Thunder – July 8, 2022

2022 movie sequels are released in a bunch, screaming or excited? End the classics

Over the years, the Thor series has had its ups and downs, with Kenneth Branagh's original film wildly popular, and the terminator: Genesis director Alan Taylor's sequel proving that the director can't break off relations with critics. However, Taiga Viditti's Thor: Twilight of the Gods was hugely popular among critics, and the director returned to the sequel, meaning that Thor 4: Love and Thunder (Natalie Portman as the female version of Jane Thor) may be another hit that the unbalanced MCU has joined.

15. Mission Impossible 7 – September 30, 2022

2022 movie sequels are released in a bunch, screaming or excited? End the classics

While Tom Cruise's Return of Top Gun 2: The Lone Ranger may be his long-awaited sequel to 2022, it's unlikely to be the actor's hottest film next year. The crown will almost certainly fall on Mission Impossible 7, a spy sequel that will be released in late September 2022. The Mission Impossible series has grown over the decades and now dominates the box office in competition with Bond's spy films, meaning the sequel will almost certainly be a hit after its release. Now, With Top Gun 2: The Lone Ranger simply learning the formula of the Mission Impossible series, Cruise can become a competitor to the MCU.

16. Spiders: Parallel Universes 2—October 7, 2022

2022 movie sequels are released in a bunch, screaming or excited? End the classics

After its release, Spider-Man: Parallel Universes was a huge hit in 2018, and despite the continued success of the MCU's rival Spider-Man series, the film maintained its popularity. Its sequel has been in development for four years, and in 2022 only the first part of Spider-Man: Parallel Universes 2 will be seen. However, due to its playful approach to the mythology of the series, if this dynamic and creative original work is worth a try, this animated adventure will still be well received by fans and critics alike.

17. The End of Halloween – October 14, 2022

2022 movie sequels are released in a bunch, screaming or excited? End the classics

Director David Gordon Green's Halloween series trilogy began to gain momentum in 2018. Initially, the helmet seemed to capture the elusive appeal of John Carpenter's classic original Halloween (missing in one of the sequels), and fans soon began to look forward to the two planned follow-up films. However, after the Halloween killing spree, End of Halloween needs to shed its nostalgic bait and focus on suspense, fright, and craft an effective ending for Laurie and Michael's decades-long beef.

18. Black Panther: Long Live Wakanda – November 11, 2022

2022 movie sequels are released in a bunch, screaming or excited? End the classics

The late great Chadwick Bosman will be deeply remembered in Black Panther: Long Live Wakanda. However, this superhero sequel is well controlled by returning director Ryan Coogler. Although the landscape of Marvel's sprawling multimedia series has grown and diversified since the release of the original film in 2017, the director of Creed is one of the few directors with a vision to continue the Black Panther branch of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

19. Creed 3 – November 23, 2022

2022 movie sequels are released in a bunch, screaming or excited? End the classics

Speaking of Coogler, the much-needed helmsman cannot be present in two places at the same time, so it is impossible to guide Creed 3. However, Eric Kermungo's actor in Black Panther himself, Michael B Jordan, directed Creed 3, and the derivative of the Rocky series of films was well controlled. Sylvester Stallone's First Blood sequel proves that getting the star behind camera isn't always the secret to success, but the star's work in the Rocky series shows that Jordan's direction can lead to Creed 3 to critical acclaim.

20. Avatar 2 – December 16, 2022

2022 movie sequels are released in a bunch, screaming or excited? End the classics

Although it's been a long time since viewers last saw the idyllic environment of The Planet Pandora, Avatar, the series's creators are still gambling, believing fans will flock to it instead of seeing the four sequels that hit the 2009 hit. The long-awaited "Avatar" sequel to visionary/former Piranha 2 helmsman James Cameron has finally been announced for release in 2022. After the original Avatar proved to be a hit, just 13 years later, Avatar 2 will see Cameron trying to revive the dormant sci-fi adventure series. If the original Avatar movie shows the potential of a sequel, audiences can expect some stunning visuals and a plain but effective satire of war and commerce.

21. Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom – December 16, 2022

2022 movie sequels are released in a bunch, screaming or excited? End the classics

Just after his passionate horror film "Fatal Induction", director Wen Ziren will return to the world of blockbuster action to ensure the audience's love. 2018's Aquaman was a huge success, jason Momma lit up a hope for the DCEU, and Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom will see Wen Ziren trying to regain that magic. It remains to be seen whether a larger-budget sequel can maintain a light-hearted tone, but one thing is certain — Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom won't be the only movie sequel to grab viewers' attention in 2022.
