Cao Weidong, member of the Beijing Municipal Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference and secretary of the Party Committee of Beijing Sport University, said that driven by the Beijing Winter Olympics, China's ice and snow sports and ice and snow industries have shown a spurt of development, and the goal of "driving 300 million people to participate in ice and snow" is getting closer and closer, and it is a long way to go to truly achieve the goal and promote popularization.

He introduced that the school has established the most complete winter sports talent training system in China, and has taken the lead in establishing the China Ice Sports Academy, the China Snow Sports Academy and the Winter Olympic Training College. Nearly 800 students in the school participate in the volunteer service work of the Winter Olympics, and hundreds of people directly participate in the preparation for the Winter Olympics, involving 14 sports such as short track speed skating, freestyle skiing, figure skating, etc. A group of students officially qualified for the Beijing Winter Olympic Games, and the referees determined to referee the Winter Paralympic Games.

He said that the school has established a sound scientific research system, built the Erqi Factory National Ice and Snow Sports Training And Scientific Research Base, and the country's first sports wind tunnel laboratory to provide athletes with sports testing and scientific training guidance; formed more than 20 interdisciplinary scientific and medical integration technology teams, and provided more than 50 national teams with scientific and technological support such as movement technology analysis and diagnosis, physical assessment and training, injury prevention and rehabilitation, and psychological training.

He said that the school also plays the role of a think tank of the university to accelerate the construction of think tanks such as the Winter Olympic Cultural Research Center (selected into the China Think Tank Index and the 2020 World's Best Emerging Think Tanks), the Sports Industry Development Research Center, and the Sports Strategy Research Institute, and constantly brings together well-known experts in domestic sports policy, Olympic sports and other related fields to provide intellectual support for the Winter Olympics.

Cao Weidong said that "bringing 300 million people to participate in ice and snow sports" is a solemn promise made by China to the international community when Beijing and Zhangjiakou bid to host the 2022 Winter Olympics. Over the past few years, driven by the Beijing Winter Olympics, China's ice and snow sports have approached the public, and through the implementation of the strategy of "expanding from the south to the west and expanding to the east", a new pattern of echoing each other in the southeast and northwest, the two seasons of winter and summer have their own characteristics, and the ice and snow industry in China has shown a spurt of development, and the goal of "driving 300 million people to participate in ice and snow sports" is getting closer and closer.
