Gasley was expecting a surprise like the Brown GP

Pierre Gasly believes that if Red Bull finishes first in the 2022 season, Red Bull Jr.'s best result is P2.

With a wide range of rules change in 2022, the team's ranking could be very different from last season's. Red Bull Jr. and other midstream teams have the best chance of catching up with the leader, but equally, they could end up being left behind if they don't do well. Gasley knew it was an opportunity and was ready for it, while on the other hand he said the best result he could see for Red Bull if Red Bull team number one was P2.

He said: "In a perfect world, the best thing we can do is get second place and Red Bull will always be ahead of us. However, this presupposes that the other teams have messed up the new car, which can only happen in my wildest dreams and is not real. We see this as an opportunity, every team starts with a blank sheet of paper, and in the process of doing that, you can discover things that no one else has done yet, which can have a huge impact. On the other hand, you may also be going in the wrong direction in design, so I'm preparing for every possible scenario. Maybe it's going to be better than last season, maybe we'll stay where we are, maybe we'll just have to fight for the top ten, or even worse. You have to be realistic, and next year can be tough. ”

Having said that, the 25-year-old driver said he was excited rather than scared of the upcoming season because the team had the potential to move upwards, and although he admitted that other teams had the same possibility, he was encouraged by what he saw from himself.

He said: "I'm excited because it's an opportunity. At the same time, it's naïve to say it's just an opportunity for us, because anyone could take a big step forward, and I know that. I know anything can happen, for better or for worse. So far, my knowledge of racing has made me feel positive.
