According to foreign media The Verge, Tesla CEO Elon Musk said on Twitter a few days ago that the price of Tesla's FSD software will be adjusted to $12,000 (about 76,500 yuan) on January 17.
Musk said that as the use of Tesla's FSD software gradually expands, the monthly subscription price will also increase, but he did not disclose the specific price increase range.
It is reported that the price adjustment is limited to the US market.
Musk tweeted
At present, Tesla FSD has two purchase methods, namely one-time payment and monthly subscription, of which the one-time payment price is $10,000 (about 63,700 yuan) and the monthly payment price is $199 (about 1268 yuan).
Musk also said that FSD Beta 10.9 should be available next week, in addition, FSD Beta 11 is likely to be pushed next month, with a single city/highway software stack and a series of architecture upgrades.
First, FSD price adjustment is frequent The scope of testing has gradually expanded
This is not the first time Tesla has raised the price of FSD software in the US market.
In October 2020, Tesla began launching the FSD Beta version of its self-driving software, which was only available to test users at the time, with a one-time payment of $8,000 (about 51,000 yuan). Shortly after the beta version was launched, Tesla raised the price to $10,000 (about 63,700 yuan).
In July 2021, Tesla officially launched the FSD Beta monthly subscription policy, with a monthly subscription fee of $199 (about 1268 yuan).
In September 2021, Tesla Motors pushed a "request" button on the central control screen to open the FSD Beta software to more Tesla users. But to upgrade the FSD Beta, users must achieve a good safety score, and Tesla's safety score system evaluates the driver's driving behavior from five criteria.
Notably, the scope of testing for FSD Beta is expanding. Musk said on a Tweet last December that FSD Beta 10.8 would roll out updates to owners with a safety score of 97 and above.
Previously, only car owners with a safety score of 98 to 100 were eligible to participate in the FSD beta test.
Musk's interaction on Twitter last December
Tesla has made two adjustments to the FSD in terms of "price + range", and its revenue in software will also increase.
Second, FSD still needs manual intervention The update progress is slower than expected
Although the full name of FSD is "Full Self-Driving", it does not have a full autopilot function, Musk once said at Tesla's third quarter 2019 earnings conference that the "full-featured" version of Tesla's FSD software can only send people from home to work without human intervention at most, and the system still requires manual supervision, and can not be called a car that can fully drive itself.
▲Tesla owners have opened the FSD Beta software
For several years, Musk has promised to roll out Tesla's FSD software on a larger scale.
In 2018, Musk said that the "long-awaited" version of the FSD would begin to be launched that summer. In 2019, Musk predicted that "in 2020, more than 1 million cars will have full self-driving capabilities."
But to this day, Tesla's FSD software is still in beta and only available to early users who purchased FSD packages.
Late last year, in an interview with foreign blogger Lex Fridman, Musk said tesla would achieve an L4 FSD in 2022.
Conclusion: Tesla is constantly adjusting the FSD solution
The price increase of FSD can be seen as an adjustment in Tesla's software revenue business.
By adjusting the price, Tesla's revenue on software has increased, and it is believed that these funds will be applied to develop better autonomous driving technology, so as to provide users with more convenient self-driving solutions.
Tesla is very strict in the control of FSD pushes, and users need to reach a certain score to get the update push of FSD Beta. Elon Musk also said that if drivers use FSD Beta irresponsibly, they will be removed from the internal testing program by Tesla after receiving a warning.
Autonomous driving software is closely related to vehicle safety, and Tesla has not been in a hurry to launch autopilot software.
