According to German media reports, the Volkswagen Group is expected to enter F1 in 2026 and may even name two teams under its brand name.
In the next month or two, when new engine rules in effect from 2026 are introduced, Volkswagen may officially announce their intention to become part of F1. Previous reports suggested the most likely scenario appeared that Audi would enter as an engine supplier and possibly even take over a fleet, although claims about McLaren's acquisition plan were refuted in November as "completely inaccurate.".
However, these rumors have not disappeared, in fact, there are now further reports from Germany that Porsche may also be considering playing the role of team title owner – perhaps with Red Bull, you would think this could mean that Little Red Bull was renamed Porsche, or even Red Bull itself?
Allgemeine Zeitung of Frankfurt, who was responsible for the initial report, said that "Audi and Porsche are not just engine suppliers, but also building their own fleets". Clearly, this requires greater commitment, especially on the financial side, with the German news channel reporting that "negotiations with McLaren and Red Bull have entered an advanced stage involving Audi's takeover offer for McLaren, as well as Porsche's close cooperation with Red Bull." ”
They added: "Audi and Porsche are said to want to work together to develop the F1 racing powertrain, but in their respective names it is available to other F1 teams. However, Volkswagen's Supervisory Board still needs to approve these plans. ”
Oliver Hoffman, Audi's chief development officer, recently said that Audi "wants to surprise everyone with our racing program," though he will only discuss their participation in the Dakar Rally and Le Mans.
Meanwhile, F1 CEO Stefano Domenicari said January would be an "important month" in terms of volkswagen group decisions.
