When it comes to the generals of the Northwest Army, there is one person who absolutely cannot be bypassed, and this person is Zhao Dengyu. He gave up his escape at the last moment and chose to coexist with Peiping City under gunfire.
Zhao Dengyu was an out-and-out Shandong Han, and in his early years he learned martial arts and laid a good foundation in martial arts. At that time, Feng Yuxiang recruited soldiers, and his favorite was the person who had a foundation in martial arts, so Zhao Dengyu joined the Northwest Army and became a soldier.
When he was young, Zhao Dengyu was both clever and good at martial arts, so he was selected to be Feng Yuxiang's personal soldier. With Feng Yuxiang's care, Zhao Dengyu rose through the ranks and eventually became feng Yuxiang's guard battalion commander and one of the famous Thirteen Taibao of the Northwest Army.
Although he became an official, Zhao Dengyu still maintained the same style as ordinary soldiers: shaving his head, drinking thin porridge, and even patching and patching his socks. After the end of the Battle of the Central Plains, he led his remnants to defect to Song Zheyuan and became a member of the later prestigious 29th Army.
At that time, the 29th Army was very poorly equipped, and it could not get the normal supply of Nanjing. Therefore, they had to practice close tactics desperately, hoping to make up for the gap in their firepower when the time came. Zhao Dengyu then summed up all the martial arts knowledge he had learned, came up with a unique sword technique, and personally taught it to his subordinates. Under his leadership, the 29th Army soon mastered the sword technique, and this tactic was very useful in the future.
The Japanese were not satisfied after occupying the northeast and infiltrated into the north of China. The Great Wall, which has stood for a thousand years, has once again become a barrier to protect the Chinese nation. In 1933, the Japanese army invaded the Xifeng Pass of the Great Wall. Zhao Dengyu led the 29th Army to resist. Taking advantage of the night, the 29th Army touched the devil's position and engaged in close combat. In close combat, the large knife of our army made it impossible for the little devil's bayonet to be used at all, and the sharp knife completely drove the Japanese out of the Xifeng Pass. Since then, Zhao Dengyu has been famous for his large knife.
After the July 7 Incident, Zhao Dengyu was responsible for the guarding of Beiping City. The Japanese offensive was fierce, and our casualties were also very heavy. The general was shot in the leg, but still did not go down the line of fire, and finally martyred. Together with Tong Linge, he became the first general to die in our army after the outbreak of the all-out War of Resistance. To this day, there are still schools and roads in Beijing named after him in honor of the immortal general.
