Removing a student's Muslim headscarf A teacher in NSW will not face criminal charges

A few months ago, a teacher in NSW was accused of removing a student's Muslim headscarf in class. On Wednesday, prosecutors declined to bring criminal charges against the case.

According to Pix11, the Essex County Prosecutor's Office said that while many may be upset about the incident, there is not enough evidence to bring criminal charges in the case.

On October 6, 2021, a second-grade teacher at Seth Boyden Elementary School in Maplewood took off the Muslim headscarf of a 7-year-old girl during class. After the incident, the child's mother, Zaynab Wyatt, and others called on social media for the teacher to be fired.

The teacher's lawyer also issued a statement saying the allegation was untrue.

Weeks after the incident, the teacher was charged with new charges. Wyatt's lawyers released a series of complaints against the teacher, including support for white students when two students argued over snacks, when the female teacher allegedly threw a water bottle from an African-American student in the trash.
