An F-16 single-seat fighter (aircraft number 6650) belonging to the Chiayi Base of the Taiwan Air Force crashed into the sea off the east stone of Chiayi on the 11th, and Chen Yi was killed in the line of duty. The air force commander said on the 21st that the "crashed residual flight data recorder" (black box) and most of the airframe wreckage have been recovered, and after comprehensive assessment and explanation to the family and consent, it is decided to terminate the salvage operation at noon today. The Air Force also pointed out that the search and rescue and salvage dispatched a total of 56 air troops, 35 sea surface troops and 1288 ground search and rescue personnel.
After the Air Force learned that an F-16 fighter was missing on the 11th, it immediately launched a search and rescue, and there were also many enthusiastic people to assist in the operation. At the expiration of the 72-hour gold, although some of the body remains were recovered, Chen Yi's whereabouts were still unknown; on the 14th, the search and rescue brigade found 5 large bags and 3 small bags of items, including human scalp tissue, about 1 km away from the north side of the Aogu Wetland. Two days later, the military also found the black box of the crashed F-16 fighter.
The air force commander said at noon on the 21st that after the First-Class F-16 fighter security incident at chiayi Base on January 11, the army set up a search and rescue center, and with the joint participation of the Transportation Safety Committee, coast guard units, police (elimination) personnel, enthusiastic people and other relevant professionals, after day and night uninterrupted search and salvage operations, the black box and most of the body wreckage have been recovered.
The air force commander further pointed out that during the period, a total of 56 air troops, 35 sea troops and 1288 ground search and rescue personnel were dispatched to conduct a comprehensive search and salvage. After comprehensive assessment and explanation to the family and approval, it was decided to terminate the salvage operation at noon today; the cause of the relevant accident is being invited by the Special Case Investigation Committee, experts and scholars to participate in the completion of the full investigation report.
