Police said Maria Kelly, 49, died on Friday, four days after her husband, Julio Aponte, 63, violently beat her on the head with a crowbar at a bus stop.

Aponte allegedly left her alone after beating his wife and escaped on his own motorcycle, and several witnesses called the police on 911 to report the vicious attack.

Police sources said Aponte then dumped the motorcycle between West 163rd Street and Fort Washington Avenue before telling parking attendants he had killed his wife.

Staff urged him to turn himself in, which prompted Aponte to dial 911, claiming he had killed his wife on the grounds that "she was unfaithful to him."

Police said police arrived at the bus stop and found Kelly lying on the ground with serious head injuries. Rescuers said Kelly was taken to Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center due to severe cardiac arrest, but died on Friday.
