Dharma Guru, also known as Bodhidharma, roughly known as Dharma, means Bodhidharma (377 AD ~ 536 AD, also known as 532, 528). He is the twenty-eighth generation of Zen Buddhism in The Western Heavens (India) and the first generation of Chinese Zen Buddhism, so Chinese Zen Buddhism is also called "Dharma Buddhism". It mainly preaches the Mahayana "two-in-four-line" Zen method. Dharma Guru's thought has had an extremely far-reaching impact on Chinese culture and philosophy, and his legendary life is even more talked about.
Dharma Guru was a Native of South Tianzhu (South India), also known as The Cloud Persian, originally known as Bodhidhara, and later renamed Dharma Dora. It belongs to the Indian "Chatili" caste (one of the four indian castes, namely The Shatili, Brahmin, Veda, and Sudra), and is said to be the three princes of the Southern Tianzhu Kingdom "Xiangzhi King".
<h1 class= "pgc-h-center-line" > extraordinary intelligence</h1>
Although Dharma Guru grew up in an aristocratic family, he was indifferent to worldly glitz and enjoyment, but instead developed a strong interest in exploring the Buddhist principles of mind. At the same time, because Dharma's father, the "Xiangzhi King", was very devout to buddhism, Dharma Guru had the opportunity to read the Buddhist scriptures from an early age, and often had incisive insights in conversation.
One day, the "King of Incense" invited His Holiness Prajnaparamita, the 27th patriarch of Indian Zen Buddhism, to give a lecture on the Dharma at the palace. In order to show his respect and support for the Dharma, the "Incense King" offered a large amount of jewelry to His Holiness Prajnaparamita, who supported Him to promote the Dharma and benefit all sentient beings.
However, His Holiness Prajnaparamita did not put away these treasures, but placed them on several cases as a test of the wisdom of the three princes of the "King of Incense".
He asked the three princes, "What other item in the world is more precious than these jewels?" ”
The Eldest Prince and the Second Prince of the "Xiangzhi King" said in unison: "These jewels are already the best items in the world, and nothing is more precious than these jewels!" ”
Only the third prince, Bodhidharma, later Bodhidharma, had another unique insight: he did not think that jewelry was the most precious item in the world, but said that the world should be the most precious treasure of the Dharma. Because the light shining in front of the jewelry is only the light of the world, the most precious person should be the light of wisdom, the light of the world should be the light of the heart; the jewelry light cannot shine on itself, the world must rely on the light of wisdom to know that this is a pearl, and it is only after knowing that it is a pearl that it is very precious; but the best jewelry in the world cannot withstand fire, flood, wind disaster, earthquake, natural disaster, only the light of the wisdom of the Dharma in the heart can accompany itself, and it is infinitely used in life and life!
His Holiness Prajnaparamita listened to the answer of the Three Princes and marveled at his superhuman intellect.
So he further asked, "Of all things, what is without phase?" ”
The Third Prince replied, "Among all things, there is no phase." ”
His Holiness Prajnaparamita asked, "Of all things, which is the highest?" ”
The Third Prince replied, "Of all things, I am the highest." ”
His Holiness Prajnaparamita then asked, "Of all things, which is the greatest?" ”
The Third Prince replied, "Among all things, the Dharma is the greatest." ”
After listening to the answer of the Three Princes, His Holiness knew that the Three Princes were the heirs to the mantle he was looking for. Because the seasons were not ripe for karma, His Holiness Prajnaparamita deliberately kept it secret.
Later, the "Incense King" died, and everyone cried. Only the third prince sat silently in front of the coffin and came out of the realm after seven days.
After his appointment, the third prince gave up his glory and wealth and asked His Holiness Prajnaparamita to accept him as an apprentice and follow His Holiness in his monastic practice. His Holiness Prajnaparamita readily agreed and said to him, "You have learned all kinds of Dharma paths. 'Dharma' means 'Dharma', and you should call it 'Dharma' in the future. So he changed his name to "Bodhidharma."
< h1 class= "pgc-h-center-line" > twenty-eight generations of ancestors</h1>
After his ordination, Dharma Guru stayed with His Holiness and served for nearly forty years, devoting himself to his teachings and not abolishing them.
Bodhidharma is even more devoted to Mahayana Buddhism, going deep into the sutras, practicing diligently, enlightening the beginnings, and having unique insights.
It was precisely because of Bodhidharma's high level of understanding and advanced practice that His Holiness Prajnaparamita finally passed on to Bodhidharma the Buddha's "Dharma-Dhamma"," the fundamental Dharma that pervades everything, and the Zen mind, and he became the twenty-eighth generation of Zen masters in India.
Dharma Guru also lived up to his teacher's expectations, and tried his best to do the Tao with his heart and vigorously promote the Zen Dharma.
<h1 class= "pgc-h-center-line" > predict China</h1>
One day, His Holiness Prajnaparamita told Dharma Guru, "If you come to pay the Great Gaya with the eyes of the Dharma, it is like going around, even to me. I tell you today, and listen to me:
The mind gives birth to all kinds, and the body is restored by events.
The fruit is full of Bodhi circles, and the world is opened.
After attaining the Dharma, Dharma Guru asked His Holiness Prajnaparamita, "Master, where should I go to propagate the Dharma after I have attained the Dharma?" Ask Master to give instructions. ”
His Holiness Prajnaparamita replied, "Although you have attained the Dharma now, it is not suitable for you to travel far now, so you will stay in South India for the time being, and after sixty-seven years of my death, you will go to Aurora (China) to teach the Dharma." Spread the Buddhist magic and connect with the roots here. Don't rush to go now, that will make the sect weaken in aurora! ”
Dharma Guru then asked, "Is there a great instrument in the East that can inherit the Dharma?" After a thousand years, will there be any disaster for the sect? ”
The master replied, "Indian Buddhism will decline, and mahayana weather will be in Aurora (China). Where you need to carry out enlightenment, there will be countless people who have gained dharma wisdom. More than sixty years after my demise, there will be a disaster in that country. Water Chinese cloth, self-good descending. When you go there, don't live in the south, where you only advocate meritorious deeds, you can't see the Buddhist principles, you just go to the south, and don't stay for long. Listen to my words:
The road crosses the water to meet the sheep, and roosting alone to cross the river.
Under the sun, poor double elephant horses, two tender gui jiuchangchang.
Dharma asked again, "What happened after this?" ”
Master said, "In the next one hundred and fifty years, there will be a small disaster. Listen to my proverb: 'Although the heart is fierce, the name of the monk's house under the river is not in the name.' In order to meet the only dragon to give birth to a martial son, suddenly the mouse is infinitely silent. ’”
Dharma asked again, "What happens after this?" ”
Master replied again, "Two hundred and twenty years from now, I will see a man in the forest who has received the Fruits of the Dao." Listen to my proverb again: 'Although Aurora has no other way out, we must borrow the feet of our children and grandchildren. The golden rooster dissolves a grain of millet and provides for the ten arhat monks. ’”
His Holiness Prajnaparamita finally repeated the various verses of the hymns, all of which were prophesied about the development of Buddhism, the rise and fall of sects, and so on (see the Biography of Pauling and the Collected Works for details).
When His Holiness Prajnaparamita had completed his teachings, he immediately stood up on his seat, stretched his left and right hands, and released twenty-seven paths of light and five colors of light. He leapt into the void, and the seven dora trees were high, and they set themselves on fire, and the relics in the air were like rain.
The gatekeepers put away the relics and built a pagoda to provide for them, which was at that time, it was Ding You (457 AD) in the first year of the reign of Emperor Xiaowu of song.
After the death of His Holiness Prajnaparamita, Dharma Guru began to travel to South India, spreading the Dharma and guiding the people.
During the period of travel, Dharma Guru also subdued the six major sects of disciples under the Buddha's great victory and many doors, so that he returned to the right path, and was transformed into the southern heavens for a while, and the five seals of the voice were not only prosperous, but also the influence spread throughout the Indian countries, and after more than sixty years, the number of people was immeasurable.
< h1 class="pgc-h-center-line" > Nishirai's first place</h1>
Sixty-seven years passed in the blink of an eye, and Dharma Guru knew that China's opportunity was ripe, so he bid farewell to the pagoda of his ancestors, disregarded his already old age, resolutely abandoned everything, trekked thousands of miles, ignored the heavy obstacles of mountains and seas, traveled far and wide, set out from South India, crossed the Indian Ocean and the Pacific Ocean, crossed the sea to China, and opened a legendary road of propagating the Dharma, at this time Dharma Grandmaster was nearly one hundred and fifty years old.
After three years at sea, he finally arrived at the dock on the north bank of the Pearl River (shangxiajiu Road in present-day Guangzhou) outside Guangzhou in the fifth year of Emperor Wu of Liangwu's reign (524 AD).
After Dharma Guru came ashore, he "gathered grass for the temple and spread the teachings" and preached the Dharma in the local area for more than three years.
Later, people called the place where Dharma Guru landed and landed as the "First Land of the West".
The place where Dharma Guru came ashore and "gathered grass as a temple and spread the Dharma" was called "Seirai-an".
Later, in the Qing Dynasty, because the Shunzhi Emperor was very religious in Buddhism and admired Dharma Guru, he gave him the title of "Xilai."
The temple was renamed "Hualin Zen Temple" ("Xilai'an" was renamed "Hualin Zen Temple" in 1655, which is now Guangzhou "Hualin Temple"
Temple"), at the same time, 22 More Buddha Relics were given to the temple to worship, and the "Hualin Zen Temple" thus became one of the five jungles in the capital city of Guangzhou
crown.
"Hualin Zen Temple" is the first dojo founded by Dharma's ancestor Dongdu to China, and it is also one of the birthplaces of Zen Buddhism in China, so it is therefore
It is revered by the Buddhist community as the ancestral court of Zen Buddhism.
Since then, the Sui, Tang, Song, Yuan, Ming, and Qing dynasties have been passed down endlessly and flourished for a long time, and there have been 1,500 years of calendar so far

Later, Dharma Guru also moved tin to the "Wangyuan Temple" (now the "Guangxiao Temple" in Guangzhou) to spread zen teachings.
Nowadays, the "Guangxiao Temple" in Guangzhou also has a complete preservation of the Dharma Ancestor "Wash Bowl Spring", commonly known as the "Dharma Well".
< h1 class="pgc-h-center-line" > dialogue with Liang Wu</h1>
Emperor Wu of Liang's ordinary seven years - September 21, 2019. Guangzhou Thorn Shi Xiao Ang prepared the etiquette of the host to welcome Dharmazu
Shi, and the above table played the emperor at that time, Emperor Wu of Liang.
Emperor Xiao Yan of Liangwu was an emperor who believed in Buddhism all his life and was known as the "Emperor of Buddhism".
Emperor Wu of Liang not only took Buddhism as the state religion, but also built temples, shaped Buddha statues, and translated and wrote Buddhist scriptures; he also presided over the compilation of the "Confession of the King of Liang" in fengmo temples and monasteries throughout the country; he also promoted vegetarian food throughout the country, encouraged "fasting", and insisted on eating vegetarian food for many years.
The most amazing thing is that he also disregarded his status as emperor and sacrificed himself four times to become a monk at "Tongtai Temple" (now "Jiming Temple"). Although this kind of practice is incredible, it shows that Emperor Wu of Liang was very courteous to the Buddha.
Buddhism reached its peak at that time, and "four hundred and eighty temples in the southern dynasty, how many buildings in the smoke and rain" is to describe the grand scene at that time!
Therefore, when Emperor Wu of Liang saw the song, he knew that a priest had come from the Western Heavens, and of course he was overjoyed, and immediately sent envoys to Guangzhou to greet Master Dharma.
At this time, it was the first year of Chase - Ding Weinian . On October 1, Dharma Guru was escorted to Jinling (present-day Nanjing).
Emperor Wu of Liang personally rode out of the suburbs to greet him, and placed Dharma Guru in the "Tongtai Temple" so that he could meet at any time and discuss Buddhism with Zushi.
When Emperor Wudi of Liang discussed Buddhism with Master Dharma, he asked himself, "Since he succeeded to the throne, he has built Buddhist temples, shaped Buddha statues, translated and written scriptures, and provided for countless monks. ”
Dharma Guru replied lightly, "There is no merit! ”
Emperor Wu was splashed with a basin of cold water on his head and asked, "How can there be no merit?" ”
Dharma Guru replied, "This is a promising thing, but it is only a small fruit of human nature, and there is a cause of leakage, like a shadow, although it is not true." ”
Emperor Wu then asked, "What is true merit?" ”
Dharma Guru replied, "The true merit is pure wisdom and wonderful circle, and the body is empty and silent." This merit is not something that can be attained by worldly methods. ”
Emperor Wu then asked, "What is the first meaning of the Noble Truth?" ”
Dharma Guru replied, "There is no holiness!" ”
At this time, Emperor Wu of Liang was really like a Zhangliu King Kong, and he couldn't touch his head. He raised his voice and asked, "Who is the person who answered the question?" ”
Dharma Guru replied, "I don't know! ”
Emperor Wu of Liang listened, was very angry, and could not understand the meaning of The Dharma Ancestor, the two did not speculate, so they angrily drove the Dharma Ancestor away.
Later, when Emperor Wu met his master, Master Zhigong, the abbot of the "High Seat Temple", he talked about this conversation with Master Dharma and asked: "Master Zhigong, Master Zhigong once asked Master Dharma that I built monasteries, shaped Buddha statues, translated and wrote scriptures, provided countless monks, and asked him what merit I had, but he said that I did not have any merit! ”
Master Zhigong replied, "Dharma Guru is right! Emperor, you must know that these things you do are only "merit", not "merit". Moreover, if you always put it on your lips and ask people to praise it, this is deliberately coveting "merit", and the merits and faults are offset, then there is nothing! ”
Emperor Liangwu listened and was a little awakened. So he asked, "I asked him if there was a Buddha in this world, and he actually answered me that there was no!" ”
Master Zhigong replied, "Dharma Guru's answer is very reasonable! Emperor, you must know that the Buddha originally has no form, only exists in the heart, since the emperor suspects that there is no Buddha, then it proves that there is no Buddha in the emperor's heart, since there is no Buddha in the heart, then how can there be a Buddha? ”
Emperor Wu of Liang was awakened by Master Zhigong's short words, but he was still a little unconvinced, and said, "Then he shouldn't say that he doesn't know who he is!" ”
Master Zhigong was astonished and said, "I didn't expect that Master Dharma had reached the realm of no-self!" ”
Master Zhigong said to Emperor Wu of Liang, "It is really good that Master Dharma's teachings are very good, this is guanyin bodhisattva wishing to come again and pass on the Buddha's heart seal!" ”
(The oldest document documenting this legend is the anonymity "Magic Treasure of the Ages" unearthed in Dunhuang.)
Ji Ji (written in 774) and Tang Zongmi's Yuanjue Jing Da Shu Qian, volume II,
Later, Zen Buddhism's famous "Biyan Record" passed it down as the first "Ode to the Ancients",
Since then, it has become a well-known public case in Zen. )
< h1 class= "pgc-h-center-line" > a reed crossing the river</h1>
Emperor Wu of Liang had only just woken up, and he regretted it so much, because he personally drove away a true enlightened monk!
So he hurriedly sent someone to ride a mule to chase after Master Dharma, hoping to welcome Master Dharma back to the palace again.
When the officers and soldiers chased after the middle section of the "Shogunate Mountain", the peaks on both sides suddenly closed, and the group was sandwiched between the two peaks.
At this time, Dharma Grandmaster was walking to the river, preparing to cross the river, helplessly at this time there was no boat on the river, Dharma Grandmaster did not want to be chased by the officers and soldiers, was invited back, so he had to show his miraculous powers, folded a reed by the river and threw it into the river, turned into a flat boat, and floated across the river!
To this day, people still call this peak of "ShogunAte Mountain" "Mule Peak", and the cave where Dharma Guru rested at the northern foot of the mountain is called "Dharma Cave".
To this day, there is also a "Dharma Cave" under the "Shogunate Mountain" on the Yangtze River in Nanjing, which is said to be the place where Dharma's ancestors "crossed the river with a reed".
After Dharma's ancestor "crossed the river with one reed", he stopped at the "Changlu Temple" in the north of the river to visit the shrine, and the "One Reed Hall" in the "Changlu Temple" today was built to commemorate the Dharma ancestor.
Dharma Guru then went to the "Dingshan Temple" to stay in Tin and practice facing the wall. "Dingshan Temple" still preserves the remains of "Dharma Rock", "Banquet Stone", "Zhuo XiQuan" and "Dharma Portrait Stone Stele". Among them, the "Dharma Portrait Stone Stele" was built in the fourth year of Ming Hongzhi and is the earliest surviving statue of Dharma Zushi in China.
Dharma Guru later came to the "Dinglin Monastery" under Bears Ears Mountain and served as the abbot of the temple according to law, where he preached the scriptures and educated the people. The dignitaries and dignitaries and ordinary people who came to listen to his lectures were endless, and he was praised as "a saint of the West and a living Buddha of the East", and "Dinglin Temple" was also famous all over the world.
<h1 class="pgc-h-center-line" > first arrived in Luoyang</h1>
When Master Dharma came to Luoyang later, he saw the very exquisite pagoda in the "Yongning Temple" and could not help but sigh: "I am now one hundred and fifty years old, traveling to various countries, never seen it, and the Extreme Buddha Realm has never been here!" ”
Thus, Dharma Guru "sang Nan Wu by mouth, and clapped his hands together for days."

<h1 class= "pgc-h-center-line" > Shaolin Zen</h1>
Dharma Guru continued his journey, holding a Zen staff in his hand, strolling along, seeing the mountain to worship, and sitting in meditation at the temple.
Emperor Xiaoming of the Northern Wei Dynasty, Xiaochang, arrived at the "Songshan Shaolin Temple" in the third year (527 AD).
When Dharma Guru saw that the mountains were surrounded by mountains, the trees were dense, the mountains were beautiful, the environment was quiet, and the Buddha's karma was thriving, he talked and kissed and thought, "This is really a rare piece of Pure Land of Buddhism!" ”
Therefore, he used the "Shaolin Temple" as a dojo where he fell to preach. A wide range of monks and the first to teach Zen.
Since then, the School of Buddhism and Zen Buddhism has begun to take root in the land of China, and posterity has honored Dharma Zushi as the "First Ancestor of Zen Buddhism" in Chinese Buddhism, and the "Shaolin Temple" is therefore also known as the "Ancestral Garden of Zen Buddhism" in Chinese Buddhism.
< h1 class = "pgc-h-center-line" > nine years</h1>
In the upper part of the middle peak of the "Five Milk Peaks" of Song Mountain, not far from the summit, there is a natural stone cave called "Xuanyou Cave".
The cave is no more than three meters high and wide, and the length is about two inches. The square cave door is just open to the sun, warm in winter and cool in summer, and the air is refreshing.
In front of the cave there is a small compact lawn, surrounded by thick shade and no sky.
It is true: "There is no summer in this place, and the empty mountains listen to birdsong."
Dharma Guru used this natural stone cave as a place for his meditative zazen.
In this cave, Dharma Guru faced the stone wall all day, sat cross-legged in meditation, did not speak, did not hold the law, silently faced the wall all day long, closed his eyes, and five hearts to the sky.
The cave is silent, and everything is silent.
After Dharma Guru settled down, even the birds didn't know that there was someone here, so they actually built a nest on Dharma Grandmaster's shoulder, and the spider also knotted a web on his palm, and he was completely unaware.
From 527 AD to 536 AD, Dharma Guru spent nine years facing the wall.
Over the years, the water droplets and stones wear through, the work condenses the spirit charm, and the walls penetrate the shadows.
When Dharma Guru left the stone cave, the stone he was facing in zazen meditation actually left an unpredictable and magical image of his wall-facing posture, and the folds of his clothes were faintly visible, like a pale ink portrait of natural carving!
People later referred to this stone as the "Dharma Wall Shadow Stone".
This natural stone cave is called "Dharma Wall Cave".
To this day, the ruins still exist.
Later, the monks of the temple imaged the shadow stone rubbings and made offerings to the ceremony.
During the Ming Dynasty, people built a stone arch with two columns and single holes outside the "wall-facing cave".
The forehead is engraved: "Silent Xuan Place", and the back forehead is engraved: "East to start the trace".
Dharma Guru's "Nine Years of Facing the Wall" has become a well-known beauty talk and a "grandmaster" in the history of Buddhism
Miracles".
During the Light Years of the Qing Dynasty, Xiao Yuanji had a poem "Praise for the Wall-Facing Stone": "A stone in Shaolin is a person, and it is clearly a person, and it is clearly a stone." Stone Ho Stone? Wall-facing stones. Who is it? Wallface Buddha. Wang Sun faced the wall for nine years, and after nine years of facing the wall, the ancestor Buddha became. Zu Buddha, empty body, whole body into the stone, spirit stone Xiao full shape, Shaolin Wangu Tong sect gate. ”
Although Dharma Guru sat still in the stone cave, he did not move, but it was the principle of "moving with immovables".
Although he didn't say anything or do anything, the seeds of Zen had begun to sprout and grow quietly at this time.
His miracles soon caused a local sensation, and believers flocked from all over to see the monks.
The "Shaolin Temple" is also famous for the miracles of Dharma Guru.
Nine years after Dharma Guru faced the wall in the "Xuanyou Cave", the Shaolin disciples invited him into the temple and built a "Dharma Pavilion" in the temple for Dharma Grandmaster to face the wall for submerged practice.
Later, the monks changed the name "Dharma Cave" to "Dharma Cave".
He also built a "Chu Zu Nunnery" under the cave, also called the "Face Wall Nunnery", to commemorate the nine years of Dharma Ancestor Face Wall's shadow into the stone.
< h1 class= "pgc-h-center-line" > Shaolin Kung Fu</h1>
At the "Shaolin Temple", Dharma Guru saw that the monks in the temple were drowsy due to long-term sitting meditation, and the "Shaolin Temple" was also
Living deep in the mountains and forests, he was often threatened by beasts of prey and mountain thieves, so Dharma Guru lived according to the movements of the beasts in the mountains and forests and people's daily life
Various activities in production, combined with the Indian "yoga", are created to relax the muscles, invigorate the spirits, fight against the beasts,
"Shaolin Kung Fu" to defend against foreign enemies, such as: "Eighteen Hands of The Arhat", "Dharma Fist", "Yi Jian Jing", "Washing the Pulp"
Sutra and so on.
Later, after the continuous deduction and development of the monks of the "Shaolin Temple" generations, a huge "Shaolin Kung Fu" system was formed, and the martial arts routines named after "Dharma" were endless, and the "Shaolin Temple" and "Shaolin Kung Fu" have been famous all over the world ever since!
Xi Wu Shan Zen, Zen Zen And Wu Xi Wu, has also become a unique practice tradition of the "Shaolin Temple", and the monks have unanimously pursued the highest state of unity of "Zen" and "Wu Xue".
When Emperor Xiaoming of northern Wei heard of the strange deeds of Master Dharma, he admired him and sent his envoys to Zhao Fan three times.
Dharma Guru III please do not go down "Shaomuro Mountain".
Emperor Xiaoming greatly admired Dharma's ancestor Yi Feng, so he offered Mo Gong robes, gold bowls, silver water bottles, and silk vessels.
Dharma Patriarch still stubbornly refused to give in, and only reluctantly accepted it when he saw Emperor Xiaoming's sincerity.
Since then, the monks and laymen have admired Dharma Even more and believed in him.
<h1 class="pgc-h-center-line" > Lixue's broken arm</h1>
Ji Guang (487-593) of Luoyang Hugao (武牢) (northwest of present-day Chenggao County, Henan), whose father was named Ji Huan (姬寂), had no children. Ji Huan once thought, "My family advocates good manners, how can there be no children?" So he often chanted and prayed.
One evening, a strange light suddenly lit up the room, and soon the lady became pregnant with the child. Ji Huan was very happy, and after his son was born, in view of the Rui Xiang of the "Divine Illumination Room", he named his son "Ji Guang".
From an early age, Ji Guang was ambitious, ambitious, and well-read, especially fond of Lao Zhuang's teachings, and proficient in the mysterious way. Later, after coming into contact with Buddhism, I deeply felt: "The teachings of Confucius are just rules of etiquette, and although Lao Tzu, Zhuangzi, and the I Ching are profound and mysterious, they are not yet perfect. So he perched on the Buddha's mind, transcended things, was comfortable with himself, and had the idea of renunciation.
When his parents saw that his ambition could not be changed, they allowed him to become a monk. So he came to the "Xiangshan Temple" in Luoyang Longmen, studied Buddhism with Bao Jing Zen Master, and soon went to the "Yongmu Temple" to receive full ordination. After that, he traveled all over the world to learn the two-fold Dharma of both large and small.
After years of study, although Ji Guang had a full understanding of the scriptures, the major events of personal life and death were still a mystery to him.
At the age of thirty-two, Ji Guang returned to Xiangshan and gave up the simple pursuit of written knowledge in the past, and began to practice, sitting in meditation from morning to night every day, hoping to solve the problem of life and death through the power of meditation.
This has been going on for eight years. One day, in his meditation, he suddenly saw a man of God standing in front of him and told him, "If you want to give fruit, why delay this evil?" The avenue is remote, RuQi nanyi! (If you want to attain the supreme path, don't cling to sitting still, the path is not far away from you, you go to the south to ask for it, you can get your wish!) )”
Ji Guang knew that this was the Protector God who was enlightening him, so he changed his name to "Divine Light".
The next day, Shen Guang began to feel a headache unbearable, like a steel needle piercing, and the shaving master Bao Jing Zen Master saw the situation and was trying to diagnose and treat it.
At this time, Shen Guang suddenly heard a voice in the air tell him, "This is a rebirth, not an ordinary headache!" ”
Shen Guang then told Master about seeing God, and Master Bao Jing took a closer look, and sure enough, he saw that the top bone of Shen Guang was like the five peaks bulging, so he said to Shen Guang, "This is an auspicious phase, and you are going to attain the fruits of the Dao!" The Protector God guides you to the south, clearly telling you that the Dharma Ancestor who is facing the wall of the "Shaolin Temple" in the south is now your teacher! ”
Shen guang accepted the teaching, so he bid farewell to Bao Jing Zen master and went to the "Shaolin Temple".
He went all the way to the "Shaomu Mountain", reached the place where the ancestors faced the wall, saw the ancestors in the morning and evening, and waited by the side.
In the beginning, Dharma Guru only meditated on the wall every day, ignoring him at all, let alone teachings.
However, Shen Guang was not discouraged, but became more respectful and pious in his heart, and inspired himself with Goode's spirit of "forgetting his body for the Fa": "People in the past went to study and visit the Tao, hungry, knocked out the light bones to suck the bone marrow inside, stabbed blood from the body to temporarily fill their hunger, cut off their precious hair and buried it in the mud, or sacrificed themselves to jump off cliffs to feed tigers." The ancients were still like this, but who am I? ”
Shen Guang had this understanding, so he still insisted on staying outside the cave from morning to night every day, and did not dare to slacken off at all.
On the evening of the ninth day of the first lunar month of this year, the weather suddenly turned cold, the cold wind was biting, and it was snowing heavily.
The divine light was still kneeling outside the cave, motionless. By dawn, the snow had fallen over his knees.
At this time, Dharma Guru slowly turned back and asked compassionately, "You have been kneeling in the snow for a long time, what are you asking for?" ”
With tears in his eyes, The divine light said sadly, "I only ask the ancestors to be merciful, open the door of manna, and purify all sentient beings in the world!" ”
Dharma Guru said, "The supreme and wonderful path taught by the Buddhas requires a long period of time and diligent practice, doing things that ordinary people cannot do, and forbearing feelings that ordinary people cannot tolerate. How can we rely on small virtues and small wisdom and a contemptuous heart to get the True Multiplication Dafa, which is a 'fool's dream', in vain and hard work, there will be no results! ”
Shenguang listened to the teachings of Master Dharma, and in order to express his sincerity and determination to seek the Dharma, he resolutely took out a fast knife on his body and immediately cut off his left arm, and immediately blood splashed and stained the snow red, so Shenguang put the stump arm in front of Grandmaster Damo to show his determination.
Dharma Guru immediately took off his robe to wrap the left half of his body to stop the bleeding for the divine light, and he was deeply touched by the devout behavior of the divine light, knowing that he was a magic weapon that could carry on great causes.
Then he said to the divine light, "When the Buddhas first sought the Path, they forgot their forms in order to realize the Dharma. If you cut off your arm in front of me so religiously today and seek the Fa, the wisdom Dafa you are pursuing will certainly be obtained! You'll be called 'Huike' from now on. ”
So Dharma Guru gave the divine light the name 'Hui Ke', which means that he said: Wisdom Dafa must be obtained! Thus he accepted the divine light as a disciple.
<h1 class="pgc-h-center-line" > hui can be at ease</h1>
Hui Ke asked Dharma Guru, "Can you tell me the Dharma seals of the Buddhas?" ”
Dharma Guru said, "The seals of the Buddhas are not obtained from people. ”
Hui Ke said, "My heart is restless all the time, please ask Master to help me calm down!" ”
Dharma Guru said, "You take your heart, and I will help you be well." ”
Hui Ke pondered for a long time and said, "Master, I can't find where my heart is!" ”
Dharma Guru said, "I have helped you to put your heart at ease!" ”
Hui Ke listened to the answer of the ancestor, and immediately realized that his heart was enthusiastic, and he suddenly felt that the sky was as clear as a mirror, and the previous earthly things were like a dream:
It turns out that there is no real "heart" to be attained, and there is no real "uneasiness" to be at peace, and "peace" and "uneasiness" are all delusions.
The heart is lifeless, and the touch is born with the shadow.
And the true "mind" is formless and has no place to live, does not increase or decrease, has no beginning and no end, and has never left and lost.
There is a "vacuum wonderland" between the former mind and the latter, and the "mind" that is born without thought and dwelling is born, and the "mind" at this moment is "eternal".
The so-called "boundless brake" is not separated from him at any end; the tenth ancient and modern worlds have always been inseparable from the thought."
"True heart" is between the colorless space. "Yes", then the three realms and six paths, the mountains and rivers and the earth, all kinds of things are diverse, and everywhere is the manifestation of the "heart", and where can it not be found and put away? "Nothingness" means that the void is shattered, the earth is flat, the three worlds are dissolved, and everywhere is the Dharma-nature of the "heart" at all times. ......
Our defilements are empty, our sin karma has no self-nature, our consciousness is silent, there is no delusional thought, it is enlightenment, it is the Buddha's path. If we can maintain a pure and undisturbed true heart, the Buddha's path will be revealed at the moment!
Hui Ke realized this, full of tears!
Hui Ke thus became an introductory disciple of Dharma Guru.
This is the famous Zen case of "seeking the Dharma with a broken arm" and "peace of mind with a broken arm".
After Hui Ke "broke his arm in lixue", he went to the top of the "Bowl Bowl Peak" to recuperate and practice.
In order to commemorate Huike's deeds, later generations built the "Erzu Nunnery" here.
About 500 meters south of Yu'an, there is also a "passage point" where Hui can recuperate, also known as "Yang Arm Platform" and "Alchemy Platform".
Later, the monks of the "Shaolin Temple" also changed the "Dharma Pavilion" to the "Lixue Pavilion".
When the Qianlong Emperor of the Qing Dynasty visited Zhongyue, he was quite touched by the story of Hui Ke's "Lixue Broken Arm", so he wrote a plaque of "Snow Seal Heart Bead" and hung it above the Shrine of "Lixue Pavilion" to warn of future life: Buddhism is not easy to come by!

At that time, China was dividing the Northern and Southern Dynasties, and the original Buddhist teachings generally focused on fame and appearance, and even evolved into a tool for some people to climb fame and fortune, and even to cling to the powerful.
The arrival of Dharma Guru, especially the Zen dharma he spread of "pointing directly to the human heart, seeing nature and becoming a Buddha", is like a stone breaking through the heart of the lake and awakening the big dreams of many practitioners.
So there was an endless stream of people who came to seek the Fa worshippers.
Sometimes there is Taoism, Ruizhi Mahayana, and a penchant for Zen. He served with Hui Ke for four or five years, following him left and right, and serving sincerely.
Dharma Guru felt his sincerity and conferred on the Mahayana "Peace of Mind Dafa","two into four actions."
The so-called "two into" is "rationalization" and "walking in".
"Rationalization" is a theoretical thinking that belongs to teaching. That is, the Teachings of enlightenment: with the help of the principle of "teaching", the purpose of the "Sect Gate" is realized. I am convinced that all sentient beings have Buddha-nature, but they are hindered by disturbing delusions and cannot see Buddha-nature. If you can give up your delusions and return to the truth and condense the wall view, then there is no self and no other, all saints are equal, they are unswerving, and they do not follow the teachings of words, which is the same as the Tao meditation, there is no difference, there is no difference, there is nothing to do, and the name is "rationalization".
"Walking in" is the practice that belongs to the teachings, and all the lines are taken into it. There are four types of "walking in", namely:
(1) Retribution: That is, when a cultivator suffers, he should say to himself: I have renounced my roots from the end of the countless calamities of the past, wandered among all beings, had many grievances, and violated the infinite number of harms. Although there is no offense now, it is my fate, the fruits of evil karma are ripe, it is beyond the sight of heaven and man, and it is willing to endure, and there is no unjust complaint. That is, to attribute all sufferings to the retribution done in the past, and to accept them willingly, without complaint, to repay with virtue, regardless of love and hatred. Jing Yun "does not worry about suffering", why is it so, and understands the reason. When this mind is born, it corresponds to reason, and the body is wronged into the path. Therefore, it is said that "revenge for wrongs."
(2) Following the fate: All sentient beings have no self, and the karma is turned, and the bitterness and happiness are all born from the condition. If I win and repay honor and other things, I have felt it in the past, and I have it now. There is no end to the fate, why is there any joy? Bittersweet gains and losses follow fate, and do not have a heart of joy and disgust. The eight winds do not move, and they follow the Tao, which is called "following the fate".
(3) Nothing to seek and do: The world is long-lost, greedy everywhere, and the name is sought. The wise man understands the truth, the reason will be the opposite, the peace of mind is inactive, and it moves with the form. All things are empty, and there is no wish. Meritorious black karma is always followed. The Three Realms have lived for a long time, just like a house of fire. Whoever suffers is at peace. Having attained this principle, we have given up all that is there, and we have no desire for anything. Jing Yun: "Whatever you ask for is suffering, and what you don't ask for is happiness." "Judging that there is no need for knowledge is really a taoist action, hence the name "nothing to ask for."
(4) Calling the Law: The Principle of Sexual Purity, the Law of Sight, the Belief in this Principle, the Emptiness of All Phases, the Absence of Contamination, and the Absence of Others. Jing Yun: "The Fa has no sentient beings, and it is away from the dirt of all beings; the Fa has no self, and it is away from me." If a wise man can understand this principle, he should do so. The Dharma body has no shame, it is rich in the body, it is done with almsgiving, the heart is not sorry, the three emptinesses are realized, and it is not dependent. But in order to remove dirt and purify sentient beings, without taking phases. This is the path of self-sufficiency, restoration, and solemn bodhicitta. Tan Shi is the same, and so is yu wu. To practice the six paramitas in order to get rid of delusions and to do nothing is to "weigh the Dhamma."
Therefore, the "two into four elements" is the teaching of combining "theory" and "practice" of Zen.
Dharma Guru's "two entrances", like "reason" and "thing", "body" and "use", are two different aspects of the same thing. There is no "reason" for "action" and no "reason" for "action"; the "four elements" of Dharma Guru are based on "calling the Dharma action", the first three lines are "things", and the last line is "reason". Settle down to the six paramitas of practice and do nothing. Doing and not doing is the essence of "reason and action".
Therefore, Zen master Linji said, "Since Dharma Guru came from the Western Lands, he was just looking for someone who was not deceived by people. "If you can do it and don't do it, if you can't do it, you will never be confused by people." What does It mean to ask Dharmasus? It is to make people unguided!
<h1 class= "pgc-h-center-line" > inheritance mantle</h1>
In the third year of the Eastern Wei Xiaojing Emperor Tianping (536 AD), that is, one day in the second year of Emperor Wu of Liangwu's datong, Master Dharma suddenly summoned his disciples and said, "The time for me to return to the Western Heavens is coming, so let's talk about the experience of following me to study Buddhism for many years!" ”
Disciple Dao said, "According to the disciple, the words are expounding the true meaning of the Dharma, and you must not cling to the words, but you must not abandon the words, so that you can be used by the Tao. ”
Dharma Guru said, "You have learned my fur. ”
Ni Zongzhi said, "According to the disciple's understanding, it is like celebrating the joy of seeing the Buddha's kingdom like this, after seeing it, he realizes the truth, and suddenly becomes cheerful, so he does not need to see him again." ”
Dharma Guru said, "You have learned my flesh. ”
Disciple Daoyu said, "The four great voids of earth, water, fire, and wind are all empty, and the five yins of form, feeling, thinking, acting, and knowing are not really there, and in my opinion, there is no way to get them." ”
Dharma Guru said, "You have learned my bones. ”
In the end, Hui Ke prostrated himself three times in front of Dharma Guru, and then returned to his position in turn, without opening his mouth to say a word (Note: Those who know do not speak, those who speak do not know).
Dharma Guru said, "That's it, you've finally learned my essence!" ”
Guru Dharma looked at Hui Ke and told him, "In the past, my Buddha rulai passed on his pure Dharma Eye to Kaya Guru, and then passed it on to me through the transmission of the ancestral master's instructions, and it is the twenty-eighth generation." I'm giving it to you now, and you have to take good care of it!" I have also passed on to you the golden bowl and the kapok robe (i.e., the golden robe of the Buddha) as a keepsake of the Teachings. They each have their own meaning, you should know. ”
Hui Ke said, "Ask Master to enlighten!" ”
Dharma Guru said, "Pass on the Seal of the Dharma within so that righteousness and truth may be in harmony with the truth." Pass on the robes so that the will of the sect is clear. If the descendants are light and thin, and the crowd is suspicious, saying that I am the Western Heavenly People's Clan, you are an Oriental student, why do you get the true Fa, and what proof do you take? If you accept this robe and the Dharma now, and in the future, in the event of a calamity, you only have to take out this garment and my Dharma, and you will be able to show that there is no obstacle to enlightenment. Two hundred years after my death, when the mantle was passed on to the Six Patriarchs, there was no need to pass it on again, because at that time the Zen Dharma was already all over the world. But at that time, there were many who knew, but few who walked; there were more people who reasoned, and fewer people who understood reason. Private words, secret testimonies are thousands. You should preach and expound the right path, and don't despise people who don't have true enlightenment, because once they return to the right path, they're like people who haven't taken a detour! ”
<h1 class= "pgc-h-center-line" > prophecy</h1>
Dharma Guru then said the following words:
I originally threw myself into the soil, and passed on the Fa to save my fascination.
A flower blooms five leaves, and the result is natural.
Later, two hundred years after the destruction of Dharma Guru, it was as prophesied by The Grandmaster: Zen Buddhism was passed on to the hands of the sixth generation of Chinese ancestors, Master Huineng, and the "mantle" was no longer passed on.
Zen Buddhism has really shined throughout China; and it really "blossoms with five leaves, and the result is natural." ”
"Yihua" refers to the first ancestor of Chinese Zen Buddhism, Dharma Zushi, and "Five Leaves" refers to Master Huike of Chinese Zen Buddhism, Master Hui ke of the Three Ancestors, Master Daoxin of the Four Ancestors, Master of Wuzu Hongnin, and Master Huineng of the Six Ancestors.
"The result is natural" means that after the Zen mantle was promoted and spread by five generations of ancestors, Zen thought has naturally become popular in China.
At the same time, "One Flower" can also refer to the "Epiphany" of the Six Ancestors Huineng Master, and "Five Leaves" can also refer to the "Five Schools of Zen Buddhism" of the "Epiphany Dharma", namely: "Hui Yang Sect", "Linji Sect", "Cao Dong Sect", "Cloud Gate Sect" and "Dharma Eye Sect".
No matter from which point of view of Dharma Guru's saying, it is "a flower blooms with five leaves, and the result is natural." "I have to say that the magic of Dharma Guru's prophecy, the profundity of Zen, and the breadth of Dharma!
<h1 class="pgc-h-center-line" > the second generation of ancestors</h1>
Dharma Guru then said, "I have four volumes of the Ranga Sutra, which have been passed on to you as well. ”
"This is my Buddha's 'Heart Asking for the Dhamma', teaching sentient beings to enlighten the Dharma into the Path. I think that the root organ of the Aurora (Chinese) is the most suitable for this sutra, and if you can follow this, you can leave the world! ”
"I've come here and have been poisoned five times. I once tried to spit out the poison and put it on the stone, and the stone cracked. ”
"The reason I left South Tianzhu (South India) and came to the Eastern Lands was because I saw that there was already a 'Mahayana weather' in the land of Shenzhou. That's why I crossed the sea and the desert to find magic tools for Dafa. When the opportunity was not met, I was as silent as a fool. Now that you have inherited my Buddha's Zen Dafa, my purpose has been achieved! ”
At this point, Hui Ke has become the second generation of Chinese Zen masters, which can be described as:
Mahayana Hong Middle-earth, who is looking for to pass on the salary?
A reed crossed the river, leaving a wall shadow for nine years.
For the sake of the Law to break the arm, Si is a snowman!
<h1 class= "pgc-h-center-line" > prophesy Nirvana</h1>
After Dharma Guru passed on the Fa Huike, he and his disciples left the Shaolin Temple with their disciples and went to Yumen (present-day Longmen, Luoyang, Henan), where they perched in the "Thousand Saints Temple", and then to the "Dinglin Temple" (present-day Shaanxi County, Henan) on Bears Ears Mountain to teach the Dharma.
At that time, Yang Xuanzhi, who had admired buddhism for a long time, came to ask Master Dharma: "In the Western Heavens and Five Indias, the Buddha has inherited from generation to generation, and to be called 'ancestor' by people, what degree must he have for the Dharma?" ”
Dharma Guru said, "Only when you know the Buddha's heart and practice the corresponding understanding can you be called an ancestor." ”
Yang Taishou asked again, "What else?" ”
Dharma Guru replied, "You must know his mind, know its present and ancient times; do not tire of existence or not, have nothing to gain from the Dhamma, are not wise or foolish, are not confused and have no enlightenment; if it can be a solution, it is called an ancestor." ”
Yang Taishou also said, "The disciple has been taking refuge in the Three Jewels for several years, but he still has no wisdom and does not know the true meaning of the Dharma. When he heard what the grandmaster said, he was still a little confused, and he wished the teacher mercy and enlightened the Dharma. ”
When Dharma Guru heard this, he knew the sincerity of his heart, but he said a Dharma for him:
Nor do they see evil and become suspicious, nor do they look at the good and act diligently;
Nor do they give up wisdom and approach foolishness, nor do they abandon their confusion and become enlightened.
Da Dao Xi overdose, through the Buddha's heart out of the degree;
Not with all the saints, transcendent names of the ancestors.
After Yang Taishou listened to the Fa Wei, he was immediately filled with sorrow and joy. He said to Dharma Guru, "May Grandmaster dwell in the world for a long time and become a group of people." ”
Dharma Guru said, "I am about to perish, and I cannot stay for long." The root nature of all sentient beings is very different, and there are many tribulations. ”
Yang Taishou was surprised and said, "I don't know who wants to harm the ancestor, the disciple is willing to remove the difficulties for the ancestor!" ”
Dharma Guru said, "I preach the Buddha's heart seal for the benefit of all sentient beings, and for my own harm and self-security, there is no need for this!" ”
Yang Taishou then said, "If the Ancestor Master refuses to speak explicitly, why should he show me and others the power of transmutation and contemplation?" ”
Dharma Guru had no choice but to make a proverb:
Jiang Cha divides the jade waves, and the pipe torch opens the golden lock;
Five mouths walk together, ninety have no one else.
After listening to the proverb, Yang Taishou did not know his intention, so he had to memorize it in his heart, prayed to the ancestor, and resigned and left.
<h1 class="pgc-h-center-line" > Yumen died</h1>
At that time, everyone was unpredictable about the proverbs spoken by Dharma Guru, but later they were fulfilled one by one!
At that time, the Emperor of the Northern Wei Dynasty was a firm believer in Buddhism, and there were many Zen masters in China.
Some Zen masters with a narrow temperament, when they saw Dharma Guru giving lectures on the Buddhist path, often compared their hands and feet to argue with the Grandmaster.
What's more, he could not accept the teachings of Dharma Guru and regarded him as a heresy.
They saw that the Mahayana Zen method promoted by Dharma Guru did not pay attention to the name, but pointed directly to the hearts of the people, applied dharma rain, expounded the Zen wind, became famous, and won prestige; it was different from the Hinayana Graded Zen Dharma that they were promoting, so they talked about it a lot, vainly added right and wrong, and were jealous, and even poisoned Dharma Guru many times.
At that time, Dharma Grandmaster had not yet found the mantle to pass on, so after each poisoning, he silently used his divine power to dissolve himself.
Until the time of the sixth poisoning, Dharma Guru had found the mantle and knew that his fate had been exhausted, so he stopped saving himself and sat in silence.
It was the second year of Emperor Xiaowen's reign, October 5 of the year of Chengchen (536 AD, also known as 532 and 528 AD). He died on December 31, 2012 at the age of 159.3 miles .
The "Three Treasures of the Past Dynasties" records: "In the food of the poisonous master, the master eats, and the snake spits out a liter." Eating poison and paying again, the master took the food and sat on the big stone, and the poison cracked out of the stone. After the six degrees of poisoning, the master told his disciples, I came to teach the Fa, and now that I have been hated by people, I have lived for a long time, so I passed on a robe, thinking that I was a believer in the Fa. Yu Huike: "I am poisoned by this, and Ru will not avoid this difficulty, and until the sixth generation of Fa transmission, the fate is like a hanging silk." 'Words end with poison'.
The monks were so grief-stricken that they buried the body of Dharma Guru in a coffin according to Buddhist rituals.
He was buried on December 28 of the same year at Bears Ears Mountain (present-day Yiyang County, Henan), and was raised at the "Dinglin Temple" (i.e. Hou).
came to "Kongxiang Temple") as a memorial.
Upon hearing the news, Emperor Wu of Liang personally wrote an inscription entitled "Ode and Preface to the Southern Dynasty Bodhi Dharma Master" to teach Dharma The founding of the Chinese Buddha
The immeasurable merits of Zen Buddhism were highly praised, and Dharma Guru was posthumously called "Master of the Holy Spirit".
The inscription of the "Ode and Preface to the Southern Dynasty Bodhi Dharma Master", more than 1480 years ago, although it has been eroded by wind and rain, the inscription can still be recognized: "Master Dharma, in order to save the fans, spread the Dharma seal, and travel to Tianzhu." And when it comes to the beam across the sea, it is said that there is no saying, such as the torch of the dark room, such as the opening of the clouds of the bright moon. Sound Vibration Huaxia, Dao Chao Ancient and Modern, the Empress is famous, Qin Ruohaotian. Woohoo! Seeing that it is not seen, every time is not the same, the eternal regret, the regret of the eternal, although a mortal man, dare to teach the later! ”
In the second year after Dharma's death, Master Ji'an built the "Dharma Pagoda" and named it "The Empty Pagoda of Enlightenment".
In 538, Emperor Xiaojing of Wei renamed "Dinglin Temple" "Kongxiang Temple".
In the Tang Dynasty, emperors posthumously honored Dharma as the "Master of Enlightenment", and the name of the pagoda was "Void View".
< h1 class= "pgc-h-center-line" > only returned to the west</h1>
The death of Dharma Guru was well known at the time.
However, one day three years after the death of Dharma Grandmaster, when Song Yun, the minister of Northern Wei, was on his way to the Western Regions on a mission to complete his mission and return to China, he saw Dharma Grandmaster holding a tin staff in one hand, a shoe in the other, and barefoot, flying from east to west.
Song Yunyin had been away for several years and knew nothing about the death of Master Dharma.
So Song Yun asked Dharma Grandmaster, "Master, where are you going?" ”
Dharma Guru replied, "Go to the Western Heavens!" ”
After the two talked, when they were parting, Grandmaster Dharma instructed Song Yun, "When you see me today, don't tell anyone after you return to Beijing!" ”
Song Yun asked incomprehensibly, "Why?" ”
Dharma Guru said, "Having said that, you will be imprisoned for a hundred days!" ”
Song Yun thought that What Master Dharma had told him was joking, and he didn't pay any attention to this matter.
When he returned to the capital to confide in the emperor, he inadvertently talked about his meeting with Master Dharma in onion Ridge.
Unexpectedly, the emperor was furious after hearing this, and angrily rebuked Song Yun: "As everyone knows, Master Dharma died in Yumen, was buried in Bears Ears Mountain, and built a tower 'Dinglin Temple', but now you say that when you meet him in Onion Ridge, how can the dead be resurrected?" If you talk nonsense in broad daylight, this is clearly a deception, how can it be so! ”
After saying this, he ordered the palace guards to tie up Song Yun and throw Song Yun into prison for the crime of "deceiving the king".
Song Yun spent many years in prison, seeing that it had been ninety-nine days, and he did not know how the imperial court would finally punish him, and he was worried about his life.
On the first hundred days of Song Yun's imprisonment, the emperor remembered Song Yun again. Thinking that if he threw a minister into prison for this matter, he did a little too much, and decided to sit in the court to try Song Yun's case of deception, so he passed down the holy will to summon Song Yun to the temple to see the driver.
Song Yun went to the Golden Palace in fear, waiting for the final treatment.
The emperor asked Song Yun again, "What happened when you saw Master Mozu in Onion Ridge?" You have to recruit truthfully and in detail. ”
Song Yun immediately prostrated his head and said, "Returning to the Emperor, on the way back to Beijing, the subject did meet Master Dharma in Onion Ridge, when he was barefoot, with a tin staff in one hand and a shoe in the other, and he flew west, I asked him where he was going, he said he was going to the Western Heavens, and he asked me not to tell anyone about meeting him, or there would be no hundred days of imprisonment!" At that time, the minister felt that it was a joke and did not pay attention to it, so he inadvertently played the emperor, and the sentences said by the minister were the truth, and he did not dare to deceive the emperor with half a sentence, hoping that the emperor would make a clear judgment! ”
After listening to Song Yun's narration, the emperor felt very strange, but he was still half-convinced.
The courtiers were also talking about it under the corner of the temple, and there were many opinions. Some people say: "The death of Dharma Guru is well known to everyone, and if there is any resurrection from the dead, Song Yun's crime of deceiving the king is undoubted, and it should be dealt with according to law!" ”
Some ministers also said, "Damosius returned to Song Yunjian, how dare he deceive heaven again in prison!" Since it is difficult to distinguish between true and false, why not open a coffin to see if it is true or false. ”
The emperor felt that it made sense, so he made up his mind to find out the matter.
So he sent a very honest minister to bears ears and dug up the grave of Dharma Guru to see what was going on.
When the people opened the coffin, they saw that the body of Dharma Ancestor was really gone, and only one shoe was left in the coffin, and everyone was shocked and quickly returned to Beijing to tell the emperor the truth.
The emperor believed that what Song Yun had said was true: After The Dharma Patriarch really died, he carried a shoe back to the Western Heavens, and should have become a Buddha! I can't help but sigh at the high and wonderful realm of the ancestors, which come and go freely, and are also true and illusory!
Subsequently, the emperor ordered the officials to remove the shoe in the coffin and place it in the "Shaolin Temple" for worship.
In the fifteenth year of the tang dynasty (727 AD), the year of Ding Di, the shoes were stolen by believers to the "Huayan Temple" on Mount Wutai (which should be Datong, which does not have the name of this temple). Later, his whereabouts are unknown!
The "General Theory" says: "Chuan Lantern" records that Emperor Xiaoming of Wei admired the extraordinary deeds of Master Dharma and sent him down the mountain three times, but Master Dharma did not leave the "Shaolin Temple" in the end. After the death of Master Dharma, Song Yun returned from the Western Regions and met Master Dharma at Onion Ridge. After returning to the capital, emperor Xiaozhuang ordered the tomb to be opened. At this time, it was the ordinary eight years mentioned in the "History of the South", that is, the first year of Chase. Emperor Xiaoming died in April of that year, and Dharma Grandmaster arrived in Liang in October. Before Grandmaster Dharma arrived in the State of Wei, Emperor Xiaoming had already died. Soon after his son succeeded to the throne, he was killed by Erzhu Rong, and only then was Emperor Xiaozhuang. As a result, the State of Wei was in turmoil. Three years later, Emperor Xiaozhuang died, and five years later, Northern Wei was divided into Eastern Wei and Western Wei, so when Dharma Zushi was in the "Shaolin Temple", he was in the midst of civil unrest in Wei. By the time Song Yun returned, Emperor Xiaozhuang had been dead for five or six years, and the country had long been divided. According to the "History of Tang": Later, at the end of the Wei Dynasty, Dharma Grandmaster sailed to China, and after his death, this year the Envoy of the State of Wei, Song Yun, returned from Onion Ridge and met Dharma Grandmaster, who did not know that Dharma Grandmaster had died. After returning to the capital, he learned that Dharma Grandmaster had been dead for three years, so he was surprised and ordered his disciples to dig up the tomb of Dharma Grandmaster and see that only one shoe was left in the coffin, only to learn that Grandmaster Had become a Buddha. This is the true record.
Now in the "Shaolin Temple" stele gallery, there is also a "Dharma Only Walking west to return to the map", which is engraved with four sentences:
Dharma entered the year of Taihe, bears ears in the middle of the pagoda temple.
It is not Song Yunliangling to see, who knows only to go to the Western Heavens.
This is the record of Dharma's "return to the West" that has been passed down through the ages and is well known!
Dharma Guru "only returned to the west", leaving the world with a mystery that has been solved for eternity:
Why did zushi want a shoe to stay in China and a shoe to bring back to the Western Heavens?
<h1 class= "pgc-h-center-line" > the influence of Dharma's thought</h1>
According to the records of the dunhuang excavations, the Zen method of Dharma Guru is among the many works and writings that have been passed down as Dharma doctrine in ancient times.
Only "two into four elements" seems to be the true thought of Dharma Guru. Tang Jingjue's Dharma of the Lengya Teacher's Book
There is a "brief debate on the four elements of the Mahayana path" in the biography, which was recorded by Tamrin, a disciple of Dharma Guru. According to Tan lin's preface,
He put together the words and deeds of Dharma Guru in one volume called Dharma, and Dharma is a zazen congregation of the Essentials of Shakyamuni
Scroll, also known as dharma treatise. These two volumes of papers were well documented and were widely popular at the time.
Now as the Dharma Patriarch's teachings and legends, there are two volumes of the "Six Doors of the Little Room", namely the "Ode to the Heart Sutra" and the "Theory of Breaking Phases"
(A "Theory of Contemplation of the Mind"), "Two Kinds of Entry", "Peace of Mind Method", "Theory of Enlightenment", "Theory of Bloodline" six, also
There are the "Dharma Monk Absolute View", "Shi Bodhi Dharma No Mind Theory", and "Southern Tianzhu Bodhidharma Zen Master View" unearthed in Dunhuang
Gate (a Mahayana Treatise), etc., and the first and second volumes of the Zen Gate Essentials engraved by the Beomeosa Temple in Korea, Suzuki, Japan
The Treatises on Dharma Gurus are collected in the Great Humble School Journal Shōmu Yishu.
Dharma Guru was very knowledgeable, both a "Youbu" sect master and a master of the two "Mahayana" sects.
But the Zen method he taught was extremely simple and concise, and the Zen method he began was a revolution in the history of Chinese Buddhism.
The Tang Dynasty monk Daoxuan commented on the Zen dharma of Dharma Guru in Volume XX of the Biography of the Continuing High Monk:
Mahayana wall view, the highest merit.
In the world, the flow of learning, return to the city.
Although Dharma Guru's Zen method emphasizes "paying equal attention to stopping and contemplation" and "fixing wisdom and wisdom", in terms of "entering", it no longer pays attention to the tedious forms of practice such as the traditional Zen method of "meditation and pranayama", but takes "peace of mind" as the purpose. It is required that on the basis of understanding the true nature, there is no greed and no attachment, bitterness follows fate, peace of mind and inaction, and the Dharma is practiced.
In terms of "rationalization", the "Sect of Enlightenment" clearly distinguishes between "Sect" and "Sect".
According to the translation of The Four Books of the Ranga Sutra by Nabhadra, the "Dzongtong" and the "Sayings" mentioned therein. The so-called "Dzogchen" means that away from words and words, engage in the practice of self-realization and self-realization, and attain liberation. If you follow the words of sentient beings and say various teachings, and attain liberation, it is called "preaching."
The Lengya Sutra attaches great importance to the self-proof of the "Dzogchen", and Dharma Guru also advocates relying on the teachings of the Lengya Sutra to prove oneself and realize oneself without following his teachings, that is, to meditate with the truth.
Dharma Guru combined the "theory of mind" and "Prajnaparamita thought" in the Lengya Sutra as the theoretical basis for Zen.
The Lengya Sutra says "there is a gate", while the Nirvana Sutra says "empty door". Although "emptiness" and "being" are different for the gate, reality is used interchangeably and cannot be biased.
Dharma Guru taught his disciples to be at ease with the "wall view", to stop the external conditions, to have no breathing in the heart, to be like a wall, to have no attachment, and to enter the path. Prajnaparamita is non-existence and non-existence, departing from words and detaching oneself from one's own, breaking away from delusional attachments, and attaining enlightenment with the mind of non-attainment and the wisdom of distinction.
Later generations of Buddhists took "pointing directly to the human heart, seeing the nature to become a Buddha, not establishing a script, and teaching others to pass on" as the symbol of Dharma Zen.
At the "Lingshan" festival, the Buddha "picked flowers and smiled, and Kaya ye would understand", which is considered to be the beginning of Zen Buddhism.
"Non-literal" means: "Zen is detached from words, and words are only code names that describe all things." ”
This is also the reason why the "Six Ancestors Huineng" master could not read one in big characters, but he was able to understand the Buddhist scriptures and Buddhist principles.
As long as you "see the nature of the mind clearly" and understand your "nature of the mind", you can become a Buddha!
Therefore, later generations often said:
Dharmasius came without a word, and worked hard with all his heart.
If you want to find the Dharma on paper, dip the tip of the pen into Dongting Lake!
Because Zen Buddhism directly takes the study of the Buddha's heart as the final purpose of zen, it is also called Zen Buddhism "Buddha Heart Sect". Some people also called it "Lengya Sect" because Dharma Guru specifically taught people in the Lengya Sutra to refer to the Zen seal.
Dharma Guru laid the tone for the development of Zen Buddhism in China. Later, through the vigorous promotion of erzu Huike, Sanzu Monk Xuan, Four Ancestors Daoxin, Wuzu Hongnin, Liuzu Huineng, etc., finally "one flower blooms and five leaves", blooming the Secret Garden, and becoming the largest sect of Chinese Buddhism.
Dharma Guru crossed the sea from India and landed in Guangzhou, bringing with him zen buddhism in Buddhism. From the moment he came ashore, for more than a thousand years, Zen Buddhism developed in China far beyond religion. Zen Discourse Has Influenced the Thinking Mode and Expression of Chinese.
