Palpitations are a strong, irregular, and uncomfortable subjective sensation in the heart that can manifest itself as a rapid pat on the chest (fluttering and jumping), a heavy blow to the chest or neck, and so on. Some people may be accompanied by chest pain, chest tightness, sweating, difficulty breathing, dizziness, lack of strength, edema and other symptoms.
Palpitations are usually benign, but severe arrhythmias, etc. can be life-threatening and should be taken seriously.
Many people describe this feeling as a state of palpitation, heart fluttering, chest tightness and even chest pain, as a disease such as myocardial infarction (acute myocardial infarction).
It is true that palpitations may be the symptoms of some patients with myocardial infarction, but myocardial infarction is generally more dangerous and dangerous, with severe chest pain, difficulty breathing, feeling of near-death and other systemic symptoms.
What causes palpitations?
The cause of most palpitations is certain. Common causes of palpitations include:
01
Heart disease: arrhythmias (atrial fibrillation, paroxysmal tachycardia, ventricular premature beats, etc.), cardiomyopathy, valvular heart disease, etc.;
02
Endocrine diseases (hyperthyroidism, hypoglycemia, pheochromocytoma, etc.);
03
Mental illness, anemia, fever, acid reflux, etc.;
04
Drugs (caffeine, ephedrine, aminophylline, thyroxine, etc.);
05
Coffee, milk tea, tea, alcohol, tobacco, drugs, etc.;
06
Palpitations may also occur during strenuous exercise, anxiety, emotional agitation, excessive fatigue, lack of exercise, lack of oxygen, pregnancy, dehydration, and changes in posture.
What should I do when palpitations occur?
Immediately sit or lie quietly and rest, and keep the surroundings quiet and ventilated;
If you drink coffee, milk tea, strong tea, smoking, drinking, etc., you should stop or reduce the amount as soon as possible;
If you eat too little, hunger, hand shaking, fatigue, nausea and other symptoms, when hypoglycemia is suspected, you should eat in time and measure blood sugar;
When palpitations occur, you can measure your pulse by yourself, keep your mood calm and measure for 30 seconds, and measure the number of pulse beats multiplied by 2, if it exceeds 100 times / min, it is tachycardia; less than 60 times / min, it is bradycardia. If there is a pulse discontinuity, a long pause, and an irregular feeling of movement in the neck and neck, consider the arrhythmia, and should be treated at a nearby hospital as soon as possible, and the ECG should be checked in time;
When palpitations occur for the first time, you can try to adjust your breathing, control your emotions, avoid mental tension, strenuous exercise and fatigue, observe the characteristics and changes of palpitations, and measure blood pressure in time;
Most patients with palpitations recommend a general visit. If there are repeated palpitations, accompanied by dizziness, chest pain, nausea and other discomfort, you should promptly seek medical treatment and check the 24-hour Holter ELECTROCARDI, cardiac ultrasound, myocardial enzyme profile, blood biochemistry, thyroid function, etc.
