Stiles Manor Odd CaseStile Manor Strange Case

The Stiles Manor Case is Agatha Christie's debut and the first appearance of Detective Hercule Poirot. Agatha Christie later complained in her autobiography that if she knew her writing career would last so long, she wouldn't have designed Poirot so old.

Written in 1916, the book was inspired by Agatha Christie's experiences as a volunteer in a hospital during World War I. After writing it, it was submitted to 6 publishing houses, but all of them were rejected. It was finally taken over by Bodley Head Press, but the publishing conditions were very harsh, requiring 2,000 copies to be sold before getting royalties, and finally the book sold a total of 2,000 copies, so Agatha Christie only received £25 from her debut magazine serial.

In the course of his investigation, Poirot found fragments of a will burned in the fireplace, broken coffee cups, shards of clothing on the door, a large piece of candle oil, and a series of other suspicious points; while in the course of the investigation, the husband of Mrs. Inglethorp, Mr. Alfred Inglethorpe, who was more than 20 years younger than her, had alibi, Poirot began to work in the absence of Mrs. Inglethorpe's ex-husband's two sons, John Cavendish and Lawrence Cavendish, and Mrs. Mary Cavendish. Miss Cynthia is looking for the murderer, and everyone seems to have many doubts, who killed Mrs. Inglethorp, or was she murdered by someone?
