Presumably influenced by recent reports of his being tracked, both Apple Maps and Google Maps have recently completely obscured apple CEO Tim Cook's home. To protect where Tim Cook lived, Apple Maps obscured his entire property in Palo Alto. But because of this, it has attracted more attention, making it the latest example of the Barbara Streisand effect.
The changes to the Apple Maps look around feature and the Street View feature on Google Maps came after Apple obtained a restraining order from the court on Cook's behalf. The CEO's stalker reportedly broke into his home at some point, and now she's barred from approaching any Apple employee.
However, as part of Apple's application for a restraining order, court documents were required to include Cook's full residential address. So while Cook has made no secret of his residency in Palo Alto, until now, specific street names and numbers have been less public.
At present, his house can still be seen from above on Google Earth and Google Maps. However, zooming in to Street View in both services presents an equally blurred area of the entire property.
Apple Maps, on the other hand, went a step further, coding the house in aerial satellite images of the area and close-ups of the streetscape.
