【Full liberalization? No kidding! U.S. experts warn that 1% to 2% of patients with breakthrough infections will still die, and more covid-19 breakthrough infections should be tracked to respond to the pandemic in advance.

Fox News: Dr. Devang Sanghavi, medical director of the Mayo Clinic's intensive care unit, told the American Medical Association (AMA) that a breakthrough COVID-19 infection is when the coronavirus is detected in a respiratory sample taken a few days after receiving the second dose of the vaccine.

Sanghavi told the AMA that about 10% of patients with breakthrough infections still need to be hospitalized, and unfortunately, 1% to 2% of people hospitalized for breakthrough infections may still die.

COVID-19 infections in vaccinated people are not common in the delta variant, but because the omicron variant is more contagious, "breakthrough infections are not uncommon," Sanghavi added, adding that people who are vaccinated develop breakthrough infections because their immunity weakens over time.

Saad Omer, director of the Yale Institute for Global Health Research: It's also important to track non-serious breakthrough infections. Unfortunately, we have been catching up with the pandemic during this pandemic.
