Nearly 300 sets of clothing were hand-customized in half a year
Chinese New Year's Eve night, Yang Donglin returned to Liuzhou to reunite with his parents, and when his parents saw the dancers in the spring evening "Only This Green" program dancing in green neon clothes, as if they were in the picture scroll, their eyes were full of pride.
"'Only This Green' expresses more of a inheritance of traditional culture." In October 2020, choreographers Han Zhen and Zhou Liya invited Yang Donglin to carry out the artistic creation of "Only This Green", and put the heirloom national treasure "A Thousand Miles of Rivers and Mountains" on the stage.
Talking about the concept of creation, Yang Donglin frankly said that the main creative team wants to express a tribute to the inheritors of Chinese culture, "whether it is the inheritors of crafts before the millennium in the play, or the current cultural relics restorers, they are all cultural inheritors, they are ordinary and great."

Yang Donglin said: "Through the works, everyone can understand that this famous painting of the national treasure level is our artistic responsibility and responsibility as literary and art workers. ”
He hopes to bring new thinking on traditional Chinese culture to everyone through his works. In this regard, he immersed himself in the aesthetics of Song Dynasty costumes, spending more than half a year to carefully customize nearly 300 sets of costumes for the entire play.

The costume of the design was presented at the Spring Festival Gala for the fourth time
In the whole play, seal carving, silk weaving, ink making and other Costumes of Song Dynasty craftsmen, different shades and characteristics, make the characters vividly present on the stage, as if crossing to the Song Dynasty. Among them, the most famous is the "green" fragment.

In this clip, the green figure of the dancer is as if stepping on the water and looking at the moon in the ever-changing mountains. Such a shocking picture is inseparable from the clever design of the costume.
We use different kinds of cotton and linen fabrics to emphasize the elegance of song dynasty aesthetics from the style of clothing. Using stone blue and stone green as the background color, the sleeves are stacked together like mountains. The skirt wraps around the waist and uses its layering feeling to form a mountain cascade.
Yang Donglin lamented that it is not easy to achieve the color in the painting, so the team constantly tries to adjust it, just to present the best effect on the stage.

"Only This Green" is Yang Donglin's fourth work on the Spring Festival Gala. The red dress with the element of missing the homeland in the crossover program "I Love You China" at the 2021 Spring Festival Gala, the cheongsam with the mark of the times in the dance drama "The Eternal Electric Wave" at the 2020 Spring Festival Gala... "Clothes are the culture worn on the body"
Yang Donglin was born in Liuzhou and has loved art painting since he was a child, and Liuzhou has given him a steady stream of creative inspiration.
In 2002, Yang Donglin was admitted to beijing dance academy with the first place in the art examination and studied drama costume design.
In the past 20 years, he has grown from an ordinary art student to the chief costume designer of the China Opera and Dance Theatre, making his own contribution to the development of traditional costumes.
"Clothes are the culture that is worn on the body." Yang Donglin explained that clothing is in the same vein as traditional Chinese culture, and how to interpret it through clothing is his job.
Over the years, he has devoted himself to the study of stage costumes, such as Du Fu, Confucius, Li Bai and other dance drama works that can be called "Chinese cultural business cards", and the costumes in the play are all from Yang Donglin's hands.

"Every time I have a new understanding of traditional Chinese culture, I will transform it into artistic creation and 'radiate' more people, which is the belief of our literary and art workers." Yang Donglin said firmly.
