European designers account for half of this year's shortlist – including 2 French designers, 2 Spanish designers, 3 British designers, 1 Irish designer, 1 Belgian designer, 1 Italian designer, 3 American designer, 1 African designer, 6 Asian designers - in addition to 2 Chinese designers, there are 2 Korean designers, 1 Japanese designer and 1 Sri Lankan designer.

The LVMH Prize for Young Designers is aimed at young designers under the age of 40 around the world and requires entrants to have launched and sold at least two seasons of women's or men's ready-to-wear collections. Commenting on this year's finalist designers, Delphine Arnault, Executive Vice President of LVMH, said: "We were impressed by the optimism and innovative vision of these 20 contestants. The finalists for the Craft Awards are announced

Also announcing the shortlist is the LOEWE Foundation Craft Award.

Established in 2016 by the LOEWE Loewe Foundation, the award was conceived by the brand's creative director Jonathan Anderson to emphasize the importance of craftsmanship in today's culture, to recognize outstanding artistic achievements and modern technological innovations, and to pay tribute to the brand's origins as a precursor to the handicraft workshop in 1846.
