On Tuesday, Adele was criticized for accepting the first Neutral Artist Award at the 2022 Briton Awards when she said she "likes to be a woman".
The new category replaces the previous British talent show's separate Categories for Best Female and Best Male Artist. It was unclear what caused the Briton to change the name of the award category, with a representative not responding to Fox News Digital's request for comment.
Adele won the Artist of the Year, Album and Song of the Year award.
"I understand why the name of this award has changed, but I really enjoy being a woman, being a female artist. I do! Adele said as she received the award.
"I'm really proud of us, I really, really," she added.
Adele's Brit Awards acceptance speech sparked a hot discussion on the Internet.
Adele's speech had social media users criticize her for being anti-transgender, while others defended her.
"Please, no, ADELE can't be TERF," one social media user wrote, according to a sixth page.
"So... Adele is a little scary? Good, good," another user wrote.
The acronym "TERF" stands for "Trans-Exclusion Radical Feminist".

Another social media user defended Adele and claimed the singer "supports transgender rights."
"Use it to intimidate transgender people and then say 'I support Adele' and Adele will hate you for transgender people? She supports transgender rights, and if you don't, then you won't really support Adele. gtfo" the user wrote.
Another expressed confusion about the reaction to Adele's speech.
"It doesn't matter if Adele gives up or not," the user wrote. "The whole world saw the reaction to her words. Most of them are saying... What is a true f-k? ”

Adele has not publicly commented on the debate sparked by her speech. Instead, she shared a brief thank-you note on Twitter after the awards ceremony.
"What a night! Thank you @BRITs, thank you Sally and Tom for your inclusion," she wrote. "Thank you to everyone in the crowd for being so loud and loving! Congratulations to all the other winners and nominees, keep smashing it! ”
After Adele postponed her residency in Las Vegas, her speech brought the "rolling in the depths" singer back to the headlines.
